1. In public, @Google, @Citi, & @Deloitte purport to be champions of voting rights

But internal documents obtained by Popular Information and Documented reveal that, privately, these companies are collaborating with a GOP group pushing voter suppression

popular.info/p/google-deloi…
@Google @Citi @Deloitte 2. According to an agenda obtained by me and @nicksurgey, representatives from @Google, @Citi, & @Deloitte participated in an April 6 "working group" on "election integrity" with the @RSLC, a major GOP pushing voter suppression laws around the country

popular.info/p/google-deloi…
3. These companies aren't just meeting with the @RSLC to discuss voting restrictions, they are funding it

These are direct corporate contributions to the @RSLC since 2020:

@Google (65K)

@Citi (75K)

@Deloitte (15K)
@RSLC @Google @Citi @Deloitte 4. These companies are funding a GOP voter suppression group while claiming to be champions of voting rights

@Kent_Walker, @Google's SVP for public affairs, tweeted on 3/31 that the company is "concerned about efforts to restrict voting at a local level"

popular.info/p/google-deloi…
5. A week later, @Google participated in an @RSLC working group about how states can restrict voting

@CampaignLegal described the private presentation as "attacks on access to the ballot box disguised as measures to fix something that’s not broken."

popular.info/p/google-deloi…
@Google @RSLC @CampaignLegal 6. The presentation also gives up the game, casting efforts to restrict voting in explicitly partisan terms

The RSLC argues that Republicans must act "now" because "2022 is just over the horizon — election integrity is likely to have a major impact."

popular.info/p/google-deloi…
7. @Google, @Citi, & @Deloitte ignored our request for comment. They are guessing that no one will care about this duplicity.

@Google @Citi @Deloitte 8. The @RSLC working group on "election integrity" was led by Alabama SoS @JohnHMerrill

Merrill spoke at a "Stop the Steal" rally in Alabama and questioned the integrity of the presidential results in six states, including California

popular.info/p/google-deloi…
9. @JohnHMerrill also publicly supported Congressional efforts to reject the results of the Electoral College vote and overturn the election.

In the lead up to 1/6, Merrill advised @RepMoBrooks, who told a crowd in DC it was time to start "kicking ass"

popular.info/p/google-deloi…
10. The presentation he gave to corporate representatives called for extensive voter purges, stricter voter ID requirements, and offering bounties to people who come up with evidence of fraud after an election

popular.info/p/google-deloi…
11. Other companies that were listed as attending the meeting and fund the @RSLC while claiming to be champions for voting rights include:

@TIAA (150K)
@comcast (135K)
@DominionEnergy (150K)

UPDATE: Following a report by me and @NickSurgey, @Google acknowledges attending a private "working group" on "election integrity" with the @RSLC, a Republican group pushing voter suppression laws

popular.info/p/google-deloi…
@NickSurgey @Google @RSLC 2. @Google claims that its representative attended the working group "to understand whether our products would be discussed"

But that strains credulity

It was a briefing by the @RSLC's "Election Integrity Commission" which is chaired by 2 people pushing Trump's lies about 2020
3. @Google told Axios that "it donated to leadership groups of both parties in 2020 as part of an effort to inform the groups about the company's election tools and services"

Google also donated 20K to the @RSLC on 2/11/21, after the 1/6 riots

"A Michigan lawmaker who's been at the center of efforts to question the 2020 election introduced a bill Tuesday that would require "fact checkers" to register with the state."

detroitnews.com/story/news/pol…
"The bill requires qualifying fact checkers to file proof of a $1 million fidelity bond with the Secretary of State's office"
"An 'affected person' could bring a civil action in any county district court to claim the bond for 'any wrongful conduct that is a violation of the laws of this state.'"

1. One of the reasons I spend time talking about corporate PAC donations is that PAC donations are transparent.

But most corporate political spending is kept SECRET.

But there are some shareholders trying to change that.

popular.info/p/shareholders…
2. While 5K donations from corporate PACs are public, corporations can spend millions of dollars supporting trade associations and non-profits and keep those expenditures completely secret

popular.info/p/shareholders…
3. Most major companies send very large sums of money to the U.S. Chamber which the group uses to oppose a $15 wage and federal protections for voting rights.

This is all kept secret.

1. One result of talking about this story with @chrislhayes on TV is that @MikeDuHaime, the GOP operative and crisis communications consultant advising these corporate PACs, finally responded

And his response is extremely revealing
@chrislhayes @MikeDuHaime 2. DuHaime emphasized that he was publicly "critical of member of the Republican Party who voted against certifying the election results" and "strongly condemned the attack on our democracy."

I'm sure this is true.

But it also COMPLETELY MISSES THE POINT
3. Whatever DuHaime has said publicly, behind closed doors he is helping Republicans who voted to undermine the democratic process get corporate cash.

His actions speak louder than his words.

1. In the United States, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. It really looks like we can control COVID if more people get vaccinated.

But a UNITED STATES SENATOR, @SenRonJohnson, is actively undermining this effort.

WTF

popular.info/p/senator-anti…
@SenRonJohnson 2. On Fox News this Sunday, @SenRonJohnson warned against the "indiscriminate vaccination of everybody."

Last week Johnson went on a radio show and, using faulty data, falsely claimed that 3,000 people had died shortly after taking a COVID vaccine

popular.info/p/senator-anti…
3. On the same radio show, @SenRonJohnson falsely claimed it was dangerous to get vaccinated if you've already contracted COVID.

He's previously said that he didn't need the vaccine because he had COVID.

1. I've obtained video, emails, and other docs that reveal how corporate PACs are plotting to "move beyond" 1/6 and start donating to the Republicans who voted to overturn the election

And how they'll spin it to the public

Follow along if interested

2. The trove of information comes from @nabpac, the trade association for corporate PACs.

Board members include @Microsoft, @KraftHeinzCo, @LillyPad, @HomeDepot, and @Cigna.

It's an unprecedented look behind the curtain.

popular.info/p/exclusive-ho…
@nabpac @Microsoft @KraftHeinzCo @LillyPad @HomeDepot @Cigna 3. A March @nabpac webinar featured GOP operative @MikeDuHaime

DuHaime said corps should not feel pressured to withhold money from GOP objectors but should "do what's right for your organization" and "deal with the fallout."
