Someone asked me last week why I am not a fan of $SFIX and I tried to sum up the highlights, but it's buried in another thread, so I thought I would break it out where everyone can read it.
The #1 reason I am skeptical is that in unbranded or non-aspirational branded clothing, I think the vast majority of consumers are very focused on price/value. I think $SFIX items are expensive for what they are.
For decades, but especially since ‘08, US consumers have been trained to look for deals and live on promos in apparel and other fashion categories (luxury and some athleisure are the rare exceptions).
The TAM of people (esp. women) who will pay up for items bc of service/curation I think is limited, given how today’s consumers have “grown up.” For curation for Gen Z/Mill, there are a mountain of influencers who curate amazingly for referral fees paid by online retailers.
Even at my ripe old Gen X age... I have shocked myself at how much I have bought lately thanks to these influencers. Also watch Amazon fashion... the amount of great clothes you can find there (or influencer finds for you) at 1/3 to 1/2 what $SFIX charges is incredible.
I acknowledge there are some really smart people who think the exact opposite of me, which is why this is a very interesting stock. $SFIX the end.
