My piece on the madness of the UK-Aus FTA. A trade deal that benefits (almost) nobody in the UK apart from our political elite.

The Australia-UK deal has no benefit to UK trade; it has nothing to do with sound economics, will in fact devastate British farming, won't benefit British consumers or the British people. It's not meant to. It's political. They NEED a Brexit win and they want you to fall for it.
It also plays to those romantic, frankly mad, Empire fantasies of the likes of Lord Hannan. His bonkers notion of a grand CANZUK alliance between Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the UK. Ladybird Libertarianism writ big
The truth is that nothing can replace our membership of the EU. It was good. It made sound economic sense and benefited us all. There's nothing that can replace it - however much Boris Johnson might waft chocolate Tim Tams about. That's why we joined in the first place.

That incredible UK Free trade deal with Australia that will add perhaps 0.01% to GDP over 15 years, while destroying UK farming
ft.com/content/8c5f7a…
Fun fact a trade deal with New Zealand could actually reduce GDP by 0.01%

So in short the 0.1% added to GDP by the Australian deal will be wiped out by the 0.1% we lose in the NZ deal.

The Golden Wonder effect. Now realising that crisps were once very regional indeed.

End of an era as Neil Hamilton - UKIP leader and former Tory MP just loses his seat in the Welsh Assembly. A humiliating 5.9% of the vote.
Sorry 5.09%
That's the death of UKIP. The party is officially a Norwegian blue.

Untrue. The government has slashed spending on roads by £400 million leaving an estimated 8 million potholes on UK roads.

But you bought all the other lies so why not buy this?
In fairness the government has now declared it will try to fix the 10 million potholes that appeared and were left on its watch... but only by putting back the money they took out 5 years ago.
