Taken in context, the admission appears to put the former Mayor of Miami and sitting Republican Congressman in the room with people plotting violence against the Congress at the moment it would hold in its hands the transfer of power between administrations.
It's also an example of two other phenomena:

2. the ease with which we can be drawn down the rabbit hole of investigating somewhat marginal mysteries, while the central truths of the situation go unaddressed because they're so obvious it seems tedious to talk about.
