The piece let’s police officials assert, without evidence, the shoplifting “epidemic” is part of “an organized crime” ring, a go-to talking point police use to obscure the reality of poverty and high cost of living and make liberals feel good about cracking down on diaper thieves
That the most expensive city in the country has high rates of petty theft would seem obvious but rest assured Brendan Dugan, director of the retail crime division at CVS, insists San Francisco is “one of the epicenters of organized retail crime” which is a strange coincidence
