@swamy64 My personal take : huge fallout for the customer since now (s)he is being wantonly milked by retailer owner/operators viz., 1. consider layout of stores : all visually alluring and conspicuous consumption stuff are often stacked at entry. 1/n
@swamy64 like chocolates, sweets, cold drinks, squash etc 2. Packaged products always available in large denominations : 0.5,1,2,5,10 kg and so on. There's no place for customers often who may do with meagre quantities -0.1, 0.125, 0.25 kg etc. 2/n
@swamy64 Ploy to make one buy more through strategically engineered supply constraints 3. Discounts are provided through huge economies of scale purchases which is then passed off in paltry fractions to buyers to keep them happy. 3/n
@swamy64 Homemakers fall to this allurement very easily (possibly) ! 4. Huge cross-selling, cross-packing to enable conspicuous consumption 4/n
@swamy64 5. Customers kept in toast through contacts sharing and loyalty cards for long-term enslavement. 5/n
@swamy64 6. Customers spoilt for choices which is nothing more than noise for distraction and allurement. 6/n
@swamy64 Historically, hv always shelled out more than my budget in large departmental stores. Reason I now keep them at arms' length / at best avoid them now altogether ! 7/n
@swamy64 I too miss the personal connect of neighbourhood kinara stores, their simplicity, honesty and making customers feel at home and special always. Miss the dwindling Kirana's of the 80's and 90's ! 8/8
