I still can’t believe Public Health England did this. They held a press conference y’day trumpeting ‘good news’ with a 10.30pm embargo. And then dumped long overdue critical data showing devastating news about spread of variant at exactly same time on Sat night. Absolutely stinks
Here’s @chrischirp’s reaction. The headline is that this is an absolute emergency.
A total scandal that body in charge of our public health is playing cheap, shitty politics with our public health. I sincerely hope that PHE director @SMHopkins is asked some hard questions today
AND IT WORKED. Look at that headline. This is most definitely *not* the headline news today. The virus is now 50% of sequenced cases. SAGE warned this week that a third wave could be worst yet. The news is truly awful. But PHE has apparently played active role in covering it up
And PHE *still* hasn’t published data on schools I reported on here. We have seen evidence that Number 10 was directly involved in decision to suppress it. I really hope that every public health professional in England asks what on earth is going on today theguardian.com/world/2021/may…
And here’s @SusanMichie on PHE’s behaviour & a thread on what the new data shows by @dgurdasani1 who describes it as ‘seriously worrying’
Govt got headlines it wanted. And PHE played central role. Is not public health. It’s actively harmful to public health. It’s covering up news that public desperately needs to understand & hear. That govt’s decision to lift mitigation’s as variant taking off has been disastrous
Here’s entire thread on new data by @dgurdasani1. I’m getting serious start-of-pandemic vibes. Not least because messages like this starting to arrive. The data on schools that @ObserverUK saw (that govt suppressed) showed 164 cases in schools up to May 12. What’s happening now??
NEW: For the last year, I've worked behind the scenes with @allthecitizens. But last week, I had a massive wake-up klaxon. There's a dangerous, ongoing, systemic assault on our democracy. And we have to do something. So, nervously, this is my something keepingthereceipts.substack.com/p/why-keeping-…
For the avoidance of doubt, no, I'm not doing a Glenn Greenwald. I don't think I've been cancelled. I'm just alarmed at what is happening in almost every area of public life. And I'm launching this with @allthecitizens because at least it's doing something keepingthereceipts.substack.com/welcome
Everyone has their limit. And mine came last week. The absolute obscenity that is Voter ID and the idea that we need it combat non-existent election fraud. By a PM whose Brexit campaign LITERALLY COMMITTED ELECTION FRAUD.
I doubt anyone in US is paying attention to a 30-yr-old British murder, but maybe you should. An inquiry into r’ship between Rupert Murdoch’s News International & London police has been mysteriously buried..by a politician who’s friends with Rupert Murdoch theguardian.com/uk-news/2021/m…
Even by the standards of what is happening in Britain right now, the details are pretty amazing. This is Home Office minister Priti Patel at Rupert Murdoch’s wedding. How are they even friends??
What possible motive does Rupert Murdoch’s friend Priti Patel have to block an independent report into police corruption that’s been *eight years* in the making...that might implicate Rupert Murdoch? bylinetimes.com/2021/05/19/did…
The idea that we need Voter ID to combat election fraud from a PM whose Brexit campaign LITERALLY COMMITTED ELECTION FRAUD is grotesque. It's an assault not just on our democracy, but the English language
You want to find election fraudsters. Well, here they are.
Maybe now is finally the moment for @metpoliceuk to explain why it dropped its investigation into Boris Johnson's Vote Leave campaign *after* it was found to have broken the law? bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politi…
I think we can all agree election fraud is a bad thing.
Which is why Cressida Dick needs to give a full explanation to us not just why no-one was never prosecuted but why no investigation ever even happened?
Facebook wants the world to think the problem is Trump. But it’s not. The problem Facebook is desperate to avoid is Facebook. And its complicity in what happened on Jan 6. Because without Facebook, there would have been no insurrection. Fact. msnbc.com/morning-joe/wa…
Yes. Spot on from @lizzadwoskin & @Cat_Zakrzewski. The framing of Facebook’s Oversight Board making the Trump decision today is critical. And @washingtonpost describes it accurately here. Not a ‘supreme court’ or an ‘independent’ body but ‘a Facebook-funded panel of experts’.
Spot the difference. This is from @AspenDigital’s website. It’s secured exclusive access to Oversight Board members on Thursday. And..guess what? It’s also funded by Facebook. It declares this on its website, but compare this language to the Washington Post
There’s nothing wrong with Facebook having a Facebook-funded panel of experts. They’re brilliant minds & I’m sure it’s helpful. But what’s dangerous is when it’s dressed up to be something it’s not: independent. Facebook has designed this whole song & dance 3 ring circus
Tomorrow, Facebook's pseudo sorry supreme court - aka the Oversight Board - decides whether Trump is given back keys to his Facebook account.
Whichever way this plays, it's a disaster for democratic accountability
Facebook is a dumpster fire right now. What *nearly* happened in Washington on Jan 6 already *has* happened in other countries. Yet, this is a company that fails to EVER take responsibility. Witness Sheryl Sandberg spreading untruths here
It is going to be a CIRCUS tomorrow.
The Oversight Board is right! The Oversight Board is wrong!
These are both BAD takes.
Because the Oversight Board is an absurd proposition. And it should be nowhere near this decision
