I am at the Andrew Yang versus Paperboy Prince basketball game. Gale Brewer is here too.
Yang and Prince talk about spreading love in a time of increasing hate crimes. Yang says this is a good example of the power of ranked-choice voting.
No candidate is less afraid of public humiliation than @AndrewYang, between the Ziwe interview and dancing to “Yang, You about to Lose.”
“I have all these memories of Jay-Z on all these songs but I was never sure if it was his song or something he was guesting on... should have said “Dirt off your Shoulder,” or something from that era... I’m sorry Jay.”
Politicians are stealing journalist’s jobs.

Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani arrives at POTS, a food bank and soup kitchen in Bedford Park in the Bronx.
The scene, as dozens of journalists line the walls and watch Mamdani shuttling platters of food from the kitchen to diners.
“While it is easy to assume that with the end of the shutdown, we will see an end to the crisis of hunger in our city, we know that is not the case,” Mamdani says. “Legislation will continue that would throw 300,000 of them off of those same benefits.”
Chi Ossé — council member and potential primary challenger to Rep. Hakeem Jeffries — and Alexa Avilés — council member and primary challenger to Rep. Dan Goldman — are among those at a rally protesting Comptroller-Elect Mark Levine’s plan to invest the city in Israel bonds.
“Disclose, divest, we will not stop we will not rest” goes the chant as Avilés, Ossé, Assemblymember Claire Valdez are among the marchers.
It’s being led by Jewish Voice for Peace. “We’re here with a clear demand: no city money for Israel bonds.”
“Giving our city pension to a government that's participating in genocide is a bad investment! Investing our city pension into a country's government that is participating in apartheid is a bad investment!,” Ossé says. “Don’t just do the just thing, do the pragmatic thing.”
“Oh, Tupac!” Curtis Sliwa says, noticing a man’s shirt on 125th Street in Harlem. “You know Assata Shakur, Joanne Chesimard… she was his kin. I have Guardian Angels in Baltimore. I know a lot of his kinfolk.”
“Black people, Latin people — we support you,” says a Dominican man in a Malcolm X shirt. “God bless you my brother, we support you.
“We got a problem in Brooklyn. the Jews are robbing people of their homes,” a woman says.
“Deed theft,” Sliwa says.
I ask later why he didn’t check her - “If I shut people down based on what they say you’d never hear the rest of the story,” Sliwa says.
Zohran Mamdani passes a giant Times Square billboard showing the odds for the mayoral race, with him at just 23%.
“Gambling is haram,” he jokes.
Would he support a casino in Times Square? “My general position is in opposition to casinos at large,” he says. “I also know that it’s not the city which decides which casino gets the permit.”
No, he’s never been to Resorts World in Queens. “They brought Nas to Albany,” he notes.
Mamdani sees a guy he met the other day with Mero in the Heights. They ask him to do pull-ups on the bar, but the mayoral candidate turns them down. “Once we win the primary, I’ll come back.”
Candidates get to ask each other questions tonight. But… they’re cheating a bit.
Mamdani asks Lander what’s the worst thing that Cuomo did?
Lander asks Stringer why’s he think Cuomo is going soft on Trump?
Stringer asks Mamdani how Adams & Cuomo messed up Albany-NYC relations.
Should Hochul be the Dem nominee in '26?
@ZohranKMamdani “Inshallah”
@BradLander: “There's gotta be a Democratic primary to make that decision."
@ScottMStringer: "Kathy has a good record… but let’s see who the opponent is. Could be Andrew Cuomo.”
Favorite New York City movie?
Mamdani jokes Mississippi Masala (his mom's movie), then says Do the Right Thing.
Lander says Anora.
Stringer says Taxi Driver.
Jhoan Boada, the immigrant who put up middle fingers after being arrested for the Times Square cop beating - *was not there at all* Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg's office said today. Exonerated and complaint dismissed.
The image tore up Fox News, and was in at least one pro-Trump ad.
Boada's lawyer said wasn't involved, and Bragg didn't ask for bail, because the office wasn't confident that it was him in the fight. *Many,* including Hochul, argued Bragg should've been tougher. Today, they say it would've met jailing an innocent person. nydailynews.com/2024/01/31/nyp…
Body Cam footage released two weeks after the beating - after it had blown up, politically - showed the NYPD seemed to physically escalate the situation even though the guy was walking away. After that - yes, the cops were violently kicked and grabbed. thecity.nyc/2024/02/08/tim…
