When I was a new fighter, I'd dance all around my opponent, thinking I was confusing them so I could make the perfect attack!

No, I was just tiring myself out while they watched bemusedly as I ignored my defense.

Later I learned- he who controls the distance of the fight wins.

When you are dancing around your enemy, it *feels* like you are controlling the distance of the fight.

Not so.

Your (accurate) fear of being hit by your superior opponent is controlling the distance of the fight.

In my later fighting years I trained newbies.

We'd start with observing fights.

"Who is controlling the distance right now?"

Takes time to learn- but 90% of the time shows you who the winner will be.

Which brings us to @johnrobb and OODA loops.

Social Networks, specifically the AIs that control them, are choosing the distance at which to engage us.

This means we will lose.

We *are* losing.
