A Puerto Rico resident just text me “I haven’t had power for over 50hrs. I’m sooooooo mad & desperate.” LUMA energy takes over running Puerto Rico’s Electric Power Authority June 1st.
65% of workers didn’t not show up at work today in protest.
Thousands of ppl are without power
A recent video shows the head of the union saying "But the most important part here colleagues... this week is important... what I call crucial is when we take LUMA out... Taking LUMA out is crucial, the week is important. You know why?...”
“... Because we cannot think that if nothing happens tomorrow, or the day after tomorrow, our minds betray us telling us it is over. No, no. We're going to continue in 2, in 3... we have 5 days to report ourselves [to LUMA I guess], so we have 4 days to joder".
This worker claims he was denied access to his work area
Members of the natural resources committee in the U.S. House of Representatives, which has jurisdiction over Puerto Rico, wrote this: ‘The impending privatization of Puerto Rico's Energy Authority is a plan to shortchange workers’

People Puerto Rico pay some of the highest electricity rates compared to any of the states. And they have some of the absolute worst service. It’ll be interesting to see if public opinion shifts in favor of Luma IF they keep the lights on consistently.
I was contacted by the employee in the video above; here’s what he said: “my name is Armando Nieves, I have been a PREPA worker for the past nine years in four different offices, under the UTIER union. At the moment I work for the commercial office in Monacillos...”
“... This office gives service to general public Monday thru Friday from 730 AM to 400 PM. This morning, my coworkers & I found that when we tried to enter our building & our office areas, our ID’s didn’t work anymore. With our access revoked we had to enter the building like...”
“... normal people who are not PREPA personnel, through a security guard. PREPA personnel are PREPA employees until the 1st of June and there is no need for this to be happening. Also amidst the claims of sabotage, if the workers, for any reason can’t do their jobs,...”
“... it is the responsibility of their supervisors to go out and do the work. In this situation specifically if there are no supervisors either it’s the administrations duty to do the work and if the administration isn’t going out to fix the problem well that is not a worker...”
“... issue and the sabotage would be coming from a different place. Also there is no real benefit for any union or individual worker to engage in any type of act of sabotage, that would be completely contradictory to what we are fighting for. Every PREPA unionized...”
“... worker (be it UTIER, UEPI, UITICE and the pilots union) and our coworkers from the Asociación de Gerenciales are committed to their job and are committed to our island, we want to do our jobs and we want to keep doing our jobs. Administration, government & the impending...”
“... LUMA contract are not letting us do our jobs.”
40,000+ customers are without power. Some haven’t had it for more than 60 hours. elnuevodia.com/noticias/local…

.@amandakloots’ book ‘Live Your Life: My Story of Loving and Losing Nick Cordero’ is out soon. We talked through parts of the book, her response to COVID-19 skeptics, & the prospect of falling in love again after Nicks death.
I ❤️ her. Full interview:
She talks about the calls that came in the middle of the night asking for her permission to provide a certain kind of care for Nick. She was nervous. She felt the weight of the responsibility & yet was scared of giving the wrong answer.
I asked her if the experience of going through the illness with Nick and eventually his death led to her questioning her faith; she said it actually strengthened her faith, but acknowledged moments where she’d go home and yell “where is God right now...?”

A message from the heart from me. @thetalkcbs
I was a co-host on CBS show 'The Talk' today and the first topic was about feeling "the other". Here's the backstory: Oprah & Prince Harry have produced a docuseries 'The Me You Can't See,' which premieres on Apple TV+ May 21, the Duke of Sussex and the OWN mogul—
along with several other stars—reflect on their own struggles and emotional well-being. The first trailer for the series, released on May 17, shows Harry and Oprah sitting down to start an honest conversation on mental health.
