Should I take steroids as part of Covid treatment?
Steroids can be LIFE SAVING for Covid.
Use of steroids early in the infection, can be counterproductive, but can be life saving when taken at the RIGHT TIME.
📢 Do not self-medicate. Take steroids only on doctor's advice.
1/4
➡️ A Covid infection can be seen to have 2 phases: The initial phase which is the attack by the virus and the 2nd phase which is the response from our immune system.
The second phase which can happen from the 5th/6th say of infection can cause symptoms to turn severe.
2/4
➡️ Steroids administered during this phase, at the right dosage can help to suppress the storm caused by our own immune system and can be life saving.
➡️ But steroids are a double edge sword. It can cause diabetes to increase and suppress our immune response.
3/4
➡️ This can give a window for 'opportunistic infections' like #mucormycosis to mount an attack.
📢 In short: Use of steroids during Covid has to be done ONLY UNDER doctor prescription. Do not rush to self medicate on steroids. Taken at the right time, it can be life saving.

Our upcoming ventilation challenge:
Airborne transmission of Covid19 is now well acknowledged.
Key implications being:
📌 The virus travels beyond 6ft.
📌 Virus can remain suspended in air for longer.
📌 Beyond mask and distancing - VENTILATION becomes important.
1/7
❓Are we prepared to handle the ventilation challenge posed by Covid19?
Let's start with why proper ventilation is important:
➡️ Unlike droplets that fall to ground within 6 feet, aerosols are smaller particles that get suspended in the air.
2/7
➡️ Given their size and mass, aersols can travel over distances greater than 6ft, as well as remain suspended in a room. The concentration of aersols in a room can increase over time, leading to increased risk of transmission.
➡️ Deaths lag cases - the effect is not seen immediately. A drop in new cases will lead to drop in deaths after 5 to 10 days.
➡️ Delays in reporting: There can be delays in deaths getting reported in official bulletins.
2/4
➡️ Few states provide a breakdown of deceased cases. A look at those bulletins show that reporting of deaths can be delayed by many weeks. Attaching today's bulletins of KA, KL and TN. Notice the date of death going 2 to 3 weeks back.
Let's get facts straight and burst some common myths on #BlackFungus.
Share with and educate those around you as well. #stayaware.
📢 NO. Black Fungus is not a new disease.
1/8
📢 NO. Black Fungus is not contagious. It doesn't spread from person to person.
2/8
📢 NO. Covid doesnt cause black fungus.
It is a fungal attack that happens when immune response is lowered. During Covid, one reason for more cases is due to unscientific use of steroids. Steroids are greatly helpful when used well, but it suppresses immune response as well
Reconciliation of deceased cases in MH today: 612 past dated Covid19 deaths added to today's tally after reconciliation.
Total net addition to MH's deceased tally: 1291.
📌Are such reconciliations common? We've seen multiple reconciliations from different states over time.
1/3
➡️ Death reporting happens upstream with data from hospitals getting reported at the district and state levels.
➡️ Given this, there is delay in reported deaths. In certain states, a committee evaluates each case to enumerate deaths directly caused by Covid.
2/3
➡️ Reporting deaths is also a function of data recording compliance at the state/district level. Considering the increased spread of Covid in rural areas in this wave, we can expect delayed reporting of deaths or future audits that bring out more accurate fatality figures.

❓I have recently recovered from Covid. I am having redness in eyes and blurry vision now. Could it be mucormycosis?
✅ If you are not diabetic, was not on steroids and was not on oxygen during Covid recovery, chances of it being #Mucormycosis is minimal.
1/4
In your case, consult an opthalmologist for the issue with blurry vision.
❓I am having fever after taking the vaccine. What should I do.
✅ It is normal to have fever in the first few days after vaccination. Take Dolo 650mg upto 3 times a day when you get fever.
2/4
❓Can someone having sickle cell anemia take the vaccine?
✅ Yes, they can.
❓ What does CT value of 22 in an RTPCR report mean? Do I have severe Covid?
✅ You should not be worrying about the CT value. The treatment of Covid is not dependent on CT value.
