Key findings 1/7 – AHPs can reduce inequalities at patient, organisation and system level
/7 AHPs can improve the equity of access to their services for lower socio-economic groups, ethnic minority groups, people with mental health problems or in rural areas and specific disadvantage groups (e.g. homeless people, offenders or those at risk of offending)
/7 AHPs can improve the equity of the quality of the care they provide by avoiding bias in decision making, having culturally appropriate services and meeting clinical standards equitably
/7 AHPs, esp OTs, have a key role in addressing the social determinants of health through supporting employment and housing
/7 AHPs have a key role in helping people with poor mental health through specific AHP services and incorporating mental wellbeing considerations in routine AHP services
/7 At a system level, there should equitable distribution of AHP workforce, funding and representation of minority groups in AHP guidelines.
/7 Finally engaging and empowering communities to support the co-design and delivery of culturally relevant services is key as AHPs try to address inequalities.
