The response to this book is going to determine whether or not Canada really is a decent society and a stalwart ally, with deep values it lives.
Right now, it’s clear there are too many opportunists ready to compromise anything and to sacrifice our poor for cash or power.

Wilful Blindness takes us through Cooper's years of investigative reporting, first looking into a skyrocketing Vancouver real estate market but getting progressively darker and deeper into international criminal and political interference networks. 3/
The book is packed with heroes: dedicated police, intelligence officers, casino employees, journalists, and a handful of politicians who risked much, over years, to sound alarms that were ignored or suppressed. 4/
Then there are the villains. First, the Triads who cause mass death and suffering through drug trafficking, loansharking, prostitution, bribery, and perversion of our governments and real estate markets. 5/
The villains also include some politicians, regulators, lawyers and some law enforcement and casino executives who turned a blind eye or directly facilitated Triad growth.
Cooper names names. He's been sued repeatedly. 6/
Some villains are state-sponsored: the UFWD and other CCP organs who enable and collaborate with the Triads in both PRC and Canada.
Then there's the allegedly treasonous Cameron Ortis, and the Sinaloa and Iranian cartels play supporting roles.
7/
Justin Trudeau and several LPC MPs make unflattering appearances, associating or even collaborating with senior UFWD and Triad personalities. Two Senators appear, one with a checkered past (present?) with a corrupt casino company, the other carrying the CCP’s water.

No sooner does Cooper finish describing his "Vancouver Model", tying together illegal gambling, money-laundering, drug-trafficking, real estate fraud and more, than he shifts to Toronto and Montreal, revealing it as the "Canadian Model", a truly national problem. 9/
But the harm goes much further than Canada. Cooper lays how Vancouver has become a major drug entry and manufacture point for North American distribution and beyond, and a drug money-laundering node for much of the hemisphere. 10/
If you've read this far, please read Wilful Blindness. It's important people understand this and demand action.
If you want to read more on UFWD and other CCP organs, I strongly recommend Hidden Hand (Hamilton/Ohlberg). The two books are complementary.
