@ipoliticsca Why is it that climate advocates don’t realize that a minority government is a weakened position to implement these measures?
Do these opinion writers not understand how legislation is made in Canada? Do they not understand the limits our constitution?
@ipoliticsca I don’t believe they do. Or if they do, they’re actively confusing those who don’t for political gain.
Provinces hold purview over natural resources in Canada.
The Supreme Court basically just ruled that the federal government has jurisdiction to reduce carbon outputs.
@ipoliticsca Until that SCOC decision, several premiers blocked any meaningful legislation because of ideological values contrary to climate change reality.
But the door is now open for feds to implement some of those policies and measures to stave off climate catastrophe.
@ipoliticsca At the same time, we have covid, economic depression and hostile conservatives blocking any legislation in the senate.
Which the election of a minority government ensured the chairman of many of the committees remained conservative or became conservative.
@ipoliticsca Not only does the executive branch have the responsibility to table and champion climate measures legislation in house committees, they now have an uphill battle to gain support in senate committees.
Which a majority government would have been positioned to do more effectively.
@ipoliticsca You want to know why it’s so difficult to get climate change legislation passed and enacted? Because we have opposition parties more concerned about obtaining political power than climate realities.
Both NDP and GPC advocated PR and vote your conscience.
@ipoliticsca I have no doubt both Singh and May knew exactly how legislation is tabled and moves through the house and senate with multiple people influencing the final text.
Both are lawyers and experienced politicians.
Both pursued their political ambitions over climate change.
@ipoliticsca And delivered a minority government where they could attempt to gain political sway over legislation.
Neither of course considering the vehement opposition from federal and provincial conservatives and about 35% of voting Canadians.
@ipoliticsca Let’s hope the next election doesn’t produce the same result. Because if it does, Canada’s ambitions of becoming a green power will be lost in the ambitious pursuit of power for power’s sake.
@ipoliticsca It would be helpful if opinion writers would at least examine this aspect before opining that we haven’t advanced much on the climate file.
We’ve advanced significantly since 2015. Despite the power ambitions of flakey opposition leaders seeking to feather their own crowns.
This is what I am talking about John. Smith is attempting to circumvent treaty obligations. Legitimizing separatists’ binding referendum through trickery.
This is how indigenous people have lost land, rights, freedoms and dignity in the past.
Governments just run roughshod over indigenous rights and a small elite group of individuals benefit.
This is exactly why indigenous people don’t trust government. Because so many with malignant intent use the legitimate authority of govt to perform illegitimate acts.
If a referendum is held in October, those stolen voter profiles will be used to reject Canadian federation? Which will lead to a binding referendum being scheduled, and all investment in Canada to dwindle and an economy that’s contracted to recession or depression levels?
@ThomasPSulliva2 @papillon4444 He is using Vassy’s show to legitimize the separatist movement’s complaints and attempting to separate the lunatic extremists from the main body of this movement.
But they’re one and the same.
The breach has seriously impacted the legitimacy of the separatist movement.
@ThomasPSulliva2 @papillon4444 Along with the data breach and the confirmation that both US and Russia are using propaganda on social media to manipulate perception, the legitimacy of the complaints of this group are now being seriously questioned.
@ThomasPSulliva2 @papillon4444 As they should be because they’re completely false.
Kenney, Smith & others are doing PR to maintain the perception that “western alienation” complaints are valid and hold substance. But they’re don’t.
@MyFirstSocialM2 @TheBreakdownAB Yes it is. Meaning this started long time ago with the 2018 yellow vest movement. When Kenney was still running for leadership of a merged party and relied on the votes of this movement to get elected as leader and the following year as premier.
@MyFirstSocialM2 @TheBreakdownAB The people in this movement have been radicalized into irrationality & extremism using the exact same tactics that radicalized Trump supporters. And before that, radicalized Russians about Ukrainian “Nazis” and before that radicalized young muslims to create ISIS 2013.
@MyFirstSocialM2 @TheBreakdownAB Where did these tactics come from?
It’s hybrid warfare. It’s the hacking of the human mind that was the chosen weapon after the failure of Russian annexation of Afghanistan.
Russia used hybrid warfare that resulted in the establishment of Al Qaeda & the Taliban.
When will the public realize that passing bill 54, despite the explicit warning, in addition to passing legislation giving immunity to the AG, should be considered a subversion of democracy by destroying the institution of free & fair elections?
EVERY ALBERTA VOTER’s personal voting data and unique voter code are now held by white supremacist separatists AND EVERY FOREIGN ADVERSARY who will now be able to sabotage EVERY Alberta provincial and municipal election in perpetuity without fear of being investigated.
There are real physical risks for some people who were doxxed.
But mainstream media is not doing its job.
The MAIN RISK is that free and fair elections WILL NOT EVER be POSSIBLE in Alberta ever again because EVERY ALBERTA VOTER’s personal data was compromised.
Withholding transfers will only help UCP to accelerate the displacement of public healthcare with for-profit healthcare.
So while symbolic in presenting a united front, this letter remains a deficient strategy. It will not engage the federal govt to ‘enforce’ compliance.
There continues to be complete confusion about the limits of federal and provincial power.
I’m guessing, but I imagine signatories think PMMC can fine UCP, charge UCP with a crime, or even step in to cancel or amend the legislation AB UCP have used to enable private healthcare.
Alberta has a corrupt… no, a deeply corrupt govt, which is actively working to harm the most vulnerable and redistribute resources and wealth to those who already have wealth and corporations that pay-to-play.
But because this is so counterintuitive and grossly unorthodox to established democracies, few even have the required mental framing to recognize it.
This is the mindset of most Albertans. Stunned shock, disbelief & confusion.
The wave looks familiar, but the danger isn’t recognized until it’s too late. Our brains are not hardwired to recognize danger unless we are familiar with the anomalies to recognize.
Human beings are at a disadvantage to other herding species of social mammals.
