The Phantom Menace (1999): Mos Espa miniature set built, painted and photographed by Rick Rische, then used in his own digital mattepainting. ImageImageImageImage
We launch a quest to know the origin of the (left) speeder. Who is the designer?

Rick told me: "The speeders (...) were added by the CG department and composited into the shot (...) Those choices were made after I had finished the matte painting background." Image
Maybe the usual suspects can have an idea for a trail start? @agraphafx @tvaziri
@agraphafx @tvaziri The track goes back (what a surprise) to Doug Chiang ... who is not here. But we can try the @EA_DICE track. ^^

Hello Dice, do you know who made this speeder asset, please? It's a vehicle from The Phantom Menace.

[Thread] Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction by @propstore_com (June 29th - July 1st 2021)

Among the 1,300 lots of original props, there is a lot of space fiction. From Star Wars to BSG and Trek, please come to see what I'm installing in The Spaceshipper Headcanon Museum. 🖖 Image
I'll start with my favorite lot, and this fantastic V'Ger model from Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979).

I've never seen it before. Image
We stay with TMP. Who doesn't need a "Space suit prep squence"? ImageImageImage

It may be a coincidence, and you SHOULDN'T take it for information, but I noticed during my research that there was activity around Star Wars Underworld (the live-action series supervised by Lucas, 50 scripts written, including by Ron Moore, canceled in 2010) in 2018. BUT...

1/2 Image
BUT I'm just thinking that the idea of recycling scripts and preproduction work must have been considered when they chose the Disney + series announced last December.
Or it's just people who got the date wrong, and that's pure coincidence.

In any case, no big deal.

But it's always an opportunity to share old artworks by Erik Tiemens, Ryan Church and Kurt Kaufman.

And to hope, claim for an "Art of Underworld/1313" book that would sell like toys in 1977.

Considering the usual deadlines, the Lucasfilm Design Team must be currently working on Rogue Squadron (Dec 2023), after having completed its work on Andor, Kenobi, Mando S3, etc.

We can imagine all the artworks of space battles & ships that I will share ... in three years. XD Image
BTW It's going to be difficult to release a new Rogue Squadron game at the same time if development hasn't already started in a studio somewhere.

Pew pew
By that I mean it seems inconceivable to me that they won't release a Rogue Squadron game along with a Rogue Squadron movie, so I wonder who is working on this hypothetical game right now. (Note: this could obviously be Motive, of which Squadrons were very successful)

Solo (2018): Coronet spaceport, art by James Clyne (in The Art of Solo by @PhilSzostak )

A lot of background ships:
-Braha'tok-class/Dornean gunship (SW6, Rebels, Rogue One)
-ZH-40 Tribune-class light freighter (SW9, Galaxy's Edge)
-Victor-wing Fighter (Vader Immortal, SW9)
1/2 ImageImageImageImage
@PhilSzostak -Guavian Ship (SW7, Resistance)

Then the double-hull ship. I don't remember if we saw this ship in the background somewhere, but it was a James Clyne artwork showed in SW9 featurettes.

"Dad, this is the Minimum Falcon, Chewbacca's ship!" 👀 Image
A true redesign 👌
In fact, he said "Flocon Minimum", which could be translated as Minimum Snowflake.

After Marooned (1969), I continued my "stuck in space" theme with The Martian (2015). A movie that is both serious and funny, which I appreciate a little more each time. The Hermes is a beautiful ship, the cast is amazing, and the potatoes haven't been so cool since Glados. Image
I'll do something about this movie. Starting with a real ship thread. But I still have to find resources.

In the meantime, I already have the interior. Image
I love the screen graphics by @martiromances & @territorystudio Image
