How to write subject lines that get 20% to 30%+ open rates

// THREAD //

The more opens your emails get, the more sales you make.

A great subject line can make the difference between $10,000's (or more).

Here are 7 types of high-performing subject lines (with examples + tips):
Subject Line #1 - List

People love lists.

(want proof? Publications like BuzzFeed made billions solely off lists...)

Examples:

"3 of our biggest best-sellers"

"The 7 most shocking marketing mistakes you might be making"

"6 Actionable Tips To Improve Your Email Marketing"
Subject Line #2 - Urgency

Urgency is a fundamental of direct response advertising

Deadlines & Time Restraints are great ways to get email opens + make sales

Examples:

"Last Chance to Get 20% Off Storewide!"

"Buy One Get One Free Sale! (4 Hours Left)"
Subject Line #3 - Mystery

Curiosity is a very strong desire to play with for great subject lines

Subject lines that NEED to be opened to answer a question in the prospects mind = $$$

Examples:

"We've got something for you..."

"Hey, Chase! We have a special offer for you"
Subject Line #4 - Question

Questions are another great way to pique curiosity + get the click

These subject lines create an open loop in your prospects mind + gain attention

Examples:

"What's next for Facebook Ads in 2021?"

"How safe is your retirement fund?"
Subject Line #5 - Discount/Offer

Sometimes, being direct is best.

If you have a sale, offer, or discount - say it!

Pro Tip: Combine with urgency for even better results.

Examples:

"Buy One Get One Free! (Limited Time)"

"FLASH SALE! Get 10% Off Storewide (12 Hours Only)"
Subject Line #6 - Personalized

“A person’s name is to him or her the sweetest and most important sound in any language.”

- Dale Carnegie

These help you stand out + grab attention.

Examples:

"Hey Chase, special offer for you..."

"Thought you'd want to see this, Chase!"
Subject Line #7 - Story

Use this for colder audiences.

Guide them from

-Rags to riches
-A great discovery
-How someone achieved something epic

Take them from A to B and make your product the *magical ingredient* that made it possible

As someone who does a lot of email & social selling, keeping up with my inboxes was nearly impossible.

Thus, I’ve left a lot of revenue on the table over the years.

The two biggest missed opportunities I identified were:

1/ I wasn’t responding to questions promptly (this forced prospects to look for other service providers)

2/ And when I was answering questions, I wasn’t following up after to move the conversation along

One of my big goals this year was to create a system that would allow me to organize and consolidate my sales communications and better manage current and future opportunities...
By having more visibility into the dozens of ongoing conversations at any given time, I’m now moving more deals from prospects to closed clients than ever before.

After testing many solutions over the past 9 months, I’ve been most impressed with @pipedrive.

And it’s no wonder that Pipedrive is the #1 CRM for small and medium-sized enterprises.

There’s A LOT to love about Pipedrive but my 3 favorite things are:

1/ The number of integrations they have (this has made it easy to plug and play with most every other app we use to run our business).

2/ Their AI capabilities—I’m a huge AI nerd, and while most platforms are just hype when it comes to AI, Pipedrive actually delivers big here.

3/ The ease of use. It’s a lot more intuitive than every other platform I tested.
I’m now passing the torch to you.

It’s your turn to level-up your business's sales operations with Pipedrive.

There are so many posts on how to write copy.

But there are so few posts on how actually to do proper research.

Here’s a 7-step process to research like a pro and write copy that converts:

(use this for your next copywriting session)
Step 1: Define Your Target

Identify who you’re writing for. Without a clear understanding of your audience, your copy won’t resonate.

Consider:

- Interests (What hobbies or passions do they have?)
- Location (Where do they live? How does this influence their behavior?)
- Occupation (What do they do for a living? How does this shape their needs?)
- Challenges (What are their pain points? What keeps them up at night?)
- Demographics (Age, gender, income level, etc.)

Pro Tip: Create a survey or poll to directly ask your audience about their interests and challenges. Tools like @typeform or Google Forms can help you gather this data quickly.
Step 2: Collect Data

Now that you know who you’re targeting, dive deep into research to gather insights.

Use platforms like:

- Google (Search trends, news, forums)
- Quora (Look for common questions and pain points)
- Reddit (Explore niche communities)
- YouTube (Watch videos relevant to your audience)
- Facebook (Join groups where your target audience hangs out)

Pro Tip: Use Google’s autocomplete feature to find common queries your audience is searching for. This can give you a clearer idea of their concerns and desires.

A/B testing can increase conversions by 161%+.

Yet, most people don't know how to do A/B testing properly.

Here are 10 copy elements you should test (and how to do it).

From a $200M Marketer:
Before we start...

When running an A/B test, it's important to only test one variable at a time.

This way, you'll know exactly what change impacted the metric you’re optimizing for.

Various tips below pertain to landing pages, emails, ads, etc.
1) Headline

Testing headlines is crucial as they directly impact how many people read the rest of your copy.

You can test headlines by changing:

- Tone
- Length
- Emotional appeal
- Use of Numbers

This will help you understand what catches your target's attention the best.

Opt-in forms are key to getting more subscribers on your list.

However, the average opt-in form converts at less than 3%.

Here are 8 opt-in form tips to get TWICE as many sign-ups:

(from a $200 million email marketer)
1) Offer a lead magnet:

Give people something in exchange for their email.

It could be:

- An ebook
- A discount
- A sample
- A checklist
- A consultation

No one can resist a good ol' value-packed freebie.
2) Keep it simple:

Structure your opt-in form to be straightforward.

Stick to this format:

1) Catchy headline
2) Captivating image
3) Short description
4) Strong call-to-action

When it comes to opt-in forms, simpler is better.

Sales emails are key to making money with email marketing.

Yet most people don't know how to craft a high-converting sales email.

Here's the 9-step framework we use to create profitable sales emails:

(with step-by-step instructions + an example)
As mentioned above...

This is a step-by-step guide, meaning we'll build a sales email from scratch.

We'll utilize a fictional brand, "FemmeFit," which specializes in workout clothing for women.

With that said, let's dive into the framework:
1) Subject Line:

The subject line's goal is to get your email opened.

To achieve this:

>> Spark curiosity
>> Mention the offer
>> Keep it clear and concise

Example:

"Say hello to your new favorite gym leggings!"
