I’ve spent the last two days touring West Virginia with my friend, @Sen_JoeManchin, and I’ve been bowled over by the potential this state is teeming with. There’s no question, West Virginians understand the epic challenge ahead. But they can see the opportunity, too. 1/
I can see the Mountain State's resolve to seize this opportunity, and their eagerness to lead the country’s clean energy industries.
That's why I’m very pleased to announce awards that will foster #WV's contributions to the clean energy economy. energy.gov/articles/doe-a… 2/
First, we are awarding $1 million to the US Research Alliance’s IMPACT Accelerator here in Morgantown through our EPIC program—which stands for Energy Program for Innovation Clusters. energy.gov/articles/doe-a… 3/
We know the IMPACT Accelerator does fantastic work to turn clean energy innovation and manufacturing into a force within the regional economy. And we’re thrilled to give their work a boost, and support the creation of more West Virginia businesses focused on clean energy. 4/
Second, we're granting $5M to the West Virginia University Research Corporation—for a project focused on advanced power plant technology.
The WV Research Corporation wants to use thermal power plants to generate low-carbon power, from renewable and fossil energy alike. 5/
We believe in #WV & that’s why we see this as a down payment.
If we pass the #AmericanJobsPlan, the Biden administration will be able to invest billions more, supporting tens of thousands of good-paying, union jobs that West Virginians will be able to raise a family on. 6/
