My thoughts on the #SBC: In 2019, I spoke at the Caring Well Conference. I reluctantly agreed to attend this event because I continued to hold out an iota of hope that the #SBC might finally make the necessary choices to acknowledge it’s wretched history of sexual abuse, 1/5
grieve over it, investigate every last bit of it, create a public database of offenders within the denomination, and begin the hard work of changing its very DNA to become the safest community for vulnerable people and the least safe for those who abuse. 2/5
Here we are almost two years later and not much has changed. Many within the denomination continue to minimize past & present abuse, there have been no #SBC initiated investigations, still no database, & men like Paige Patterson & Ronnie Floyd seem more emboldened than ever. 3/5
I say this with a heavy heart - It’s time to move on from the #SBC. It’s a dying denomination that looks less & less like Jesus & has no interest in genuine change. We can only run into the #SBC brick wall so many times & with each time we only hurt ourselves, not the wall. 4/5
Maybe one day after countless SBC churches have been sued and the denomination finds itself embroiled in these countless & costly lawsuits will what’s left of the SBC finally humble itself and begin the hard work of transformation. As for me, my hope of such a day has passed. 5/5

"I came to find out later that the false narrative about me—the idea that I could not be trusted and my motives were cause for concern—had been circulating amongst our wider staff; it was propagated by senior leadership." 25/29
"Michael Ramsden told several attendees at Founders’ that he and the senior leadership were “concerned” and “unsure” about my intentions, partly because “Ruth keeps records of everything,” and he warned them to “be careful” around me." 26/29
"Perhaps even more relevant and disturbing at present, I have yet to witness a posture of humility and contrition from the senior leadership within RZIM in response to the now multiple scandals and controversies for which I have served as spokesperson." 27/29
The evils committed by Ravi Zacharias were enabled by a toxic organizational leadership that is evidenced by how these same leaders responded when confronted about the widespread and ongoing abuses being perpetrated by the namesake of the institution. 1/29
Please take time to read this piece by @DavideAFrench and the 26-page letter written by a first-hand witness. Here are just some of the excerpts: 2/29
"At one point, Ravi suggested to me that the Task Force “issue a statement that they [the Thompsons] are hooligans, they are scoundrels, they are thugs, they are serial extortioners.” If we didn’t do that, he told me, he would ask his attorney to do so on his behalf." 3/29
