Mike Broomhead, a talk radio host in Phoenix, used to support a local audit of the 2020 election.

Now, he's urging fellow Republicans to reconsider.

latimes.com/politics/story…
As the recount of 2.1 million ballots cast seven months ago in Maricopa County drags on, Broomhead and others are contemplating just how this saga will end.

latimes.com/politics/story…
An increasingly vocal share of Arizona Republicans see the recount as an act of self-sabotage, creating an albatross for statewide candidates in the run-up to a pivotal election year.

Broomhead is in this camp, with another lingering concern.

latimes.com/politics/story…
Broomhead is a two-time Trump voter, a staunch conservative and a one-time supporter of this recount.

In recent weeks, he has fashioned himself as a reality check for fellow Republicans.

latimes.com/politics/story…
The more the effort veered away from expert-sanctioned best practices and toward groundless speculation, the less Broomhead had faith in its integrity.

He tried to imagine if the parties were reversed, if Democrats were pushing an identical process.

latimes.com/politics/story…
Broomhead is not shy about his opinions — that’s the whole point of being a talk radio host. But when he starts to talk about the recount’s backers, his tread becomes lighter.

Yet, he still catches heat from listeners who accuse him of being biased.

latimes.com/politics/story…
Broomhead fears months more of preposterous headlines. It may make for great radio, but it might not be great for his party, or his state.

Other police departments across the country have robust rules for carrying firearms while drinking alcohol or when intoxicated.

But the LAPD’s rules remain vague even as serious cases pile up.

In a 2019 incident that resurfaced recently in state court, an LAPD detective who’d been drinking with subordinates for hours in downtown bars allegedly shot a homeless man on skid row before being badly beaten himself.

In a 2020 case, an LAPD officer who’d been drinking while shooting targets with two fellow cops at a campsite imagined they were under attack and allegedly shot one of his friends.

He later claimed the shooting was a result of his PTSD, not the alcohol.

A California board has recommended relaxing workplace safety rules for people vaccinated against COVID-19.

That means, on June 15, employees will probably be able to take off their masks in a room if everyone there is vaccinated.

Here are the details:
latimes.com/california/sto…
• Masks would still be required if anyone in the room is not fully vaccinated.

• Workplaces would need to have workers’ vaccine records on file to comply with Cal/OSHA regulations.

latimes.com/california/sto…
• Workers in retail stores and restaurants, as well as others who interact with members of the public, will still need to mask up.

• Workers in some other settings, such as hospitals, will not be affected by the rule change.

La Gloria is in danger of closing — but the culprit isn’t the economic ravages of COVID-19, says the family who runs the iconic Boyle Heights tortilla factory.

It’s the Los Angeles Department of Public Works.

latimes.com/california/sto…
For 6 years, La Gloria has waged a bitter battle with the agency over the fate of its flour tortilla machines.

The city acquired the Quonset hut that houses them via eminent domain in 2015.

latimes.com/california/sto…
La Gloria received $2.2 million for the building & is also entitled to relocation fees.

They asked for $4.2 million, citing the complexity of dismantling and transporting the tortilla lines, plus the cost to accommodate the machines in the factory.

Las Vegas nearly ground to a halt during the pandemic. Casinos and restaurants are set to return to full capacity, but many hospitality workers wonder whether they'll ever make up their losses.

@kurtisalee reports from Las Vegas:

They’ll be coming soon — at least that’s what Vegas hopes — the gamblers, tourists and all the rest.

The city’s betting on revival.

But will the people laid off during shutdowns be part of the recovery?

latimes.com/world-nation/s…
The Strip went silent early in the pandemic and has returned like a man slipping on his best suit piece by piece, inching back slowly with a return to full capacity set for June.
