It's 12 days until I graduate from gen surg residency.
But it's hard to appreciate when my best friend and 8 months pregnant co-resident (future @hopkinssurgery surg onc fellow) @aldiblanc might be deported...
a 🧵 1/x
@aldiblanc came to our program as a PGY-3 after working tirelessly as a prelim resident at @hopkinssurgery.
She fit into our program and risked her life during the height of the COVID outbreak caring for the most marginalized patients of @The_BMC . 2/x
Aldana mentored other residents and became family at @BMCSurgery.
She is an exceptional surgeon and eventually matched into surg onc fellowship at @hopkinssurgery, one of the most coveted fellowships in the country. 3/x
BUT Aldana is on year 3/7 of J1 visa that she has been unable to renew for fellowship due to multiple technicalities...
Including of the wording of the visa having to change from general surgery to surg oncology.
As a result she will lose her coveted spot @hopkinssurgery. 4/x
BOTTOM LINE... @StateDepartComs and @SecBlinken have the power to waive this semantic technicality and allow her to practice under her ALREADY EXISTING training visa she previously earned. 5/x
