I learned a BIG lesson today. Don’t share your vision with everybody… 🧵 Nate Parker reached out to me back in Dec 2020. He called me every other day for about 2 weeks mostly to talk about my company @kweliTV but also about personal things …1/
Like when I was a caregiver twice first for my mom in law (who passed) & then my dad (who’s in remission) from cancer. I guess to gain my trust. After I shared some of my 5 yr road map like a dummy 🤦🏾♀️, he said I was “a visionary.” He said he wanted to partner with @kweliTV… 🧵2/
He said he could help @kweliTV raise money, find advisory members, make industry connects, etc. But he wanted 50 PERCENT of @kweliTV to do so. I politely declined — his offer is the same thing any advisory board member would do for 1-5% & I had reservations given his past…🧵3/
I did counter but I never heard from him again, well until today. I got a DM from a recruiter on LinkedIn about Nate Parker starting his own global black streaming service that sounds almost identical to @kweliTV’s mission 🤨… 🧵 4/
They’re looking for a CEO and want to talk to me about the position!?!?! How wack. I created kweliTV initially with just $20k and a dream to fill a void of what I DIDN’T SEE, not copy what already existed by others. This news really got to me. But I won’t be intimidated. / end
