One of the purposes of sport is fun. One of the purposes of national sport is to unify people in having fun.
How much fun is it when our best players are booed by a minority of their own 'supporters' before kick-off? 1/
The England players have collectively taken the decision that they will continue to make this important gesture against division and discrimination.
They are supported in their decision by the England manager.
We should all support them too. 2/
It's very strange way to show support, to boo your own team. Maybe for a minority, opposing those who want to heal divisions and end discrimination is more important than supporting their own country. 3/
Even stranger, is a Prime Minister who refuses to condemn the boo boys attacking our national team.
Maybe his denial of racism's existence and his culture wars are more important to him than any patriotism. Boris Johnson should condemn them. 4/
We should be grateful we have such a bunch of talented and principled players and manager. I hope they are not deflected by any of this. Good luck England!
(ps Hope Scotland and Wales do well too) end/
