RIGHT NOW: @RepMTG is apologizing for comments she made comparing mask mandates to the Holocaust. She said that her father taught her to take responsibility when she makes a mistake- and in this instance she made a mistake.
.@RepMTG says that she visited the Holocaust museum and said she was learned more about the horrors of that period of time. She said there was “no comparisons to what happened there.”
I asked @RepMTG If this experience would lead her reject the disinformation spread by Qanon followers- some of which deny the Holocaust- she said she did not know of what information was spread by Q followers.
While Greene emphatically withdrew her comparison of mask mandates to the Holocaust, when pressed by @Bencjacobs she refused to take back comparing the modern Democratic Party to the National Socialist Party of the Nazi era.
Greene also refused to denounce President Trump’s rhetoric around the riots in Charlottesville when he suggested that there were good people on both sides.
Greene said the visit to the Holocaust museum was a good reminder for her- but that she said she has always known how awful that period of time was. She said she visited the Auschwitz concentration camp when she was 19.

NEW: On the Senate floor- @LeaderMcConnell attacks Senate Dems that have called on former Attorneys General to testify as to what they knew about the leak investigations during the Trump Administration.
McConnell says he believes the Attorney General's IG investigation into the subpoenas of communications of reporters and Members of Congress is sufficient and any additional inquiries by groups like the Senate Judiciary Committee would be akin to a "witch hunt."
McConnell said the DOJ "Is empowered to investigate criminal conduct by members of Congress, and there's necessarily this sort of investigation is subject to strict procedural protections..." (more)
In a prelude to the House passage of the 1/6 Commission Bill- Homeland Security Chair Benny Thompson said that leadership (aka Pelosi/ McCarthy) was kept in the loop and offered changes and suggestions throughout his negotiations with GOP Ranking Member John Katko.
“It’s quite unfortunate that the Minority Leader has, at the last moment, raised issues that, basically, we had gone past, and there was no issue, despite all his talk now. But I guess that’s politics,” Thompson said.
.@SpeakerPelosi stops short of warning that if the Commission plans fail that she will call for a select committee.
“I certainly could call for hearings in the house with a majority of the members being Democrat,” she said (more)
NEW: Gaetz sighting--> Rep. Matt Gaetz will make his first public appearance since the revelations of an FBI investigation into his conduct.
The Florida Congressman will speak Friday at the "Women for America First" Save America Summit at Trump National in Doral, Florida.
Among the nuggets:
*Leader McCarthy had said he planned to meet with Gaetz to discuss the investigation- his office won't say if that meeting has occurred.
*We polled a dozen or so GOPers who took campaign $$ from Gaetz- only one said they planned to donate or return the money.
House Democratic leaders pushed back today on worries from progressives that the covid relief pkg is the only hope for passing a minimum wage increase in this Congress. @SpeakerPelosi told me “we will have other reconciliations.”
Pelosi said her conference will not stop their efforts to get the increase- but said if it is not in the final Covid relief pkg it should not prevent that pkg from being passed.
"Let's not be diverted into thinking into what is not in it, but lets respect it for what is in it.”
.@LeaderHoyer said the Senate's filibuster rules should be modified:
"I am one who believes the filibuster is an undemocratic
utilized in my early generation when I started in an interest in public affairs, to undermine the rights of citizens of color in America."
