Just came home after a night in trauma ward: The night after #TASMAC reopened for the 1st time since May 10. Needless to say that I was prepared to face a heavy case load of Road traffic accidents under #alcoholinfluence. And I wasn't surprised. It was triple the usual case load.
Patients came with broken bones to pneumothorax to brain hemorrhage due to RTA/self fall under alcoholic influence. Patients came with stab wounds all over body due to assault by other persons under alcohol influence. I knew people would drink irresponsibly after one dry month.
But what I saw among those patients were their families in tears. A wife of a middle aged man said he was doing good during the last month without alcohol and when he heard TASMAC is opened, he couldn't control himself. Being drunk, he fell down the stairs, got brain hemorrhage.
She has a 19yr old daughter with special needs and a younger 16 yr old daughter. She was worried about how'd she look after her daughters now. What she told me next was disturbing. " Yaaru aatchiku vandhaalum, indha TASMAC ah mattum moodamaatraanga", she said while tearing up.
Why can't we have any alternative solution for "kallasaarayam" other than opening #TASMAC? People literally lose their lives. Families lose their loved ones. People come to streets. What benefit does alcohol give to anyone's health? @mkstalin@arivalayam kindly consider sir
Last month, it was 0 case of accidents under alcohol influence. Last night, I could not even keep a number. They kept on coming. It was an overwhelming, long night.

My covid-19 experience.
A thread.
I live in Anna Nagar West, Chennai.
Only my mom goes out twice a week to buy groceries within 500 m radius.
She took utmost care by wearing mask and avoiding crowded stores.
But as life is unfair, she got the symptoms on the night of 9 May.
She had fever, cough and body pains intermittently and was convinced it's cuz of her eating a chilled mango. My bro too had a fever during a night but recovered soon. On 11th night, she had a temp. of 102 which prompted me to take her to a pvt lab to get her tested for covid-19.
We were sure it'd be -ve but the lab sent an email saying she is POSITIVE. We were devastated cuz we didn't know how she got it. We are a family of 4. Mom ,grandma, me and my bro.(And a dog). We were more worried about grandma cuz she is 81 yr old diabetic and heart patient.
