1. Politicians in Washington, DC could learn a lot from Texas.

Texas House Democrats blocked a voter suppression bill. It was derided as a "stunt" that would only delay the inevitable.

Then extraordinary stuff started happening.

2. Forced to defend their voter suppression bill, Republicans quickly abandoned some of the very worst provisions.

First it was the ban on Sunday voting before 1PM.

Now it's the section that would have made it easier for judges to overturn elections

3. Texas House Democrats did everything in their power to protect voting rights, and good things are happening.

In DC, the Senate is struggling to pass federal legislation to protect voting rights.

They are running into problems.

4. There is only one Republican (Murkowski) who appears ready to consider serious voting rights legislation.

And several Democrats won't change the filibuster rules, raising the bar for passage to 60 votes.

5. The path forward is uncertain but the lesson from Texas is: keep fighting.

Instead, Senate leadership is planning on spending much of the summer in recess

One thing is certain: The Senate will not pass legislation protecting voting rights in recess

It also donated $35,300 to state legislators who sponsored anti-trans bills this year.

1. This is a cute tweet but if @BurgerKing really supports LGBTQ+ rights maybe the @BurgerKing Franchisee PAC should stop donating so much money to so many members of Congress THAT RECEIVED A ZERO RATING FROM @HRC.

@BurgerKing @HRC 2. In the 2020 cycle, the @BurgerKing Franchisee PAC donated $113,500 to 31 MEMBERS OF CONGRESS WITH A ZERO RATING ON @HRC's CONGRESSIONAL SCORECARD.

Now @BurgerKing is trying to position itself as a champion of LGBTQ rights.

1. On May 31, Texas Republicans were fully prepared to pass a sweeping voter suppression bill

But the bill failed because House Democrats walked out, denying the GOP a quorum

The GOP will take the bill up again in a special session

But something EXTRAORDINARY is happening
2. Republicans are COMPLETELY UNPREPARED to defend the substance of the bill and are abandoning major provisions.

First, the GOP claimed the ban on Sunday voting before 1PM was a typo

This isn't credible because they defended the ban as the bill was debated

But its OUT
3. Now Republicans are scrapping a provision to allow Texas judges to void an election based on thin evidence of fraud (w/o regard to whether the alleged fraud changed the result)

A chief House sponsor of the bill now calls the provision "horrendous"!

1. The DOJ has decided to continue defending Trump in a case involving his attacks on a woman, E Jean Carroll, who he allegedly raped.

There are lots of VERY SERIOUS LAWYERS defending the DOJ.

But that doesn't mean the DOJ is right.

2. First, let's talk about what Trump said. After E. Jean Carroll accused Trump of raping her in a dressing room in the mid-90s, Trump claimed he never met Carroll, accused her of lying to sell books, & suggested she was conspiring w/the Democratic Party

The DOJ's main argument is that when Trump said all this HE WAS ACTING WITHIN THE SCOPE OF HIS OFFICE AS THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES
