Hello from Judge Hogan's virtual courtroom, where a status hearing will start soon in the case of J6 defendants George Tanios and Julian Khater, the two men charged with assaulting Officer Sicknick. Recall they're both in the middle of appealing pretrial detention orders
While we wait for Khater and Tanios to come on the line from jail, judge is shooting the breeze with the lawyers. One of the defense lawyers (I think Joe Tacopina) quips with a chuckle that there wouldn't be a delay if the judge had granted bond...
Okay Khater and Tanios are connected and the status hearing is underway. Hogan notes the pending appeals re: detention, says in the meantime they need to move forward with the case. AUSA Gilead Light says they're working to get discovery over to the defense teams

Okay it sounds like the public line just connected again, but so far we can only hear silence, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
And I'm told the hearing concluded, so no need to stay on a silent telephone line! There have been a number of technical difficulties lately with the court's public lines. I'll update once we get a docket entry summarizing today's status hearing, hopefully it'll have details
No such luck, all we get is that the next status conference is scheduled for 9/8 at 10am 
Spoke with Khater's lawyer Joe Tacopina, who said little else happened at the hearing after the public line cut out - they discussed discovery, Tacopina told the judge about issues reaching the jail. He said there was no discussion of a plea offer in these cases, it's too early
Why care about public access to a status hearing where nothing big gets discussed? Because you *never know* what will happen, and also accumulating as many details as possible about these cases allows reporters to (hopefully!) provide context and nuance to coverage over time
