A 3rd wave of covid infections in India is unavoidable and may hit the country within 8 weeks, AIIMS chief Dr. Randeep Guleria said. The vitality of the new wave however, would depend upon vaccination coverage and level of adherence to COVID-19 protocols.

Dr. Guleria added, "As we have started unlocking, there is again a lack of COVID-appropriate behavior. We don't seem to have learned from what happened between the 1st and the 2nd wave." He further said, "It all depends on how we go ahead in terms of COVID-appropriate behavior."
So will this wave affect children more? A recent seroprevalence study was done by #WHO and AIIMS on 10,000 samples. Citing that, the Indian govt asserted that the level of antibodies was similar in both adults and children. So, the new wave might affect every age group equally.
Just a few of months back, India faced the world's worst covid outbreak and its handling of the disease got marred by acute shortages of necessities such as hospital beds, drugs, vaccines, and medical oxygen. Daily cases in India had peaked at 4,14,000 in early May. #SecondWave
Meanwhile, India has 3 approved coronavirus vaccines - the indigenously-developed #COVAXIN, Oxford-AstraZeneca's #COVISHIELD and Russia's Sputnik V. More than 26 crore total vaccine doses have been administered in India, however, only 3.5% of the population is fully vaccinated.

India recorded its lowest number of daily COVID-19 cases in 196 days, or more than 6 months, with a three-digit tally of 862 on Tuesday. The total number of active cases has also dropped below 23,000 as per data from Union Health & Family Welfare Ministry.

Nearly 65L people died worldwide as a result of several waves of COVID-19, which were initially recorded in November 2019 & quickly put everything on halt. Some studies claim 94L more people (compared to the reported global total) died between January 2020 & December 2021.
Total number of confirmed cases in India so far stands at 4,46,44,938, while number of deaths reported in the country on Tuesday climbed to 5,28,980 since the beginning of the pandemic. The recovery rate currently is 98.76%, with 4,40,93,409 patients having recuperated so far.
