1. One of my friends posted this #MidTermBudget2019 Analysis on Facebook. I agree with the majority of his analysis and therefore I will post here as a thread :
2. A quick breakdown of why this budget stinks. It’s the numbers. First half, revenue $4.99 billion, & expenditure $4.2 billion, giving a surplus of some $0.8 million. Second half projection, revenue $9.11 billion and expenditure $14.42 billion giving a deficit of $5.31 billion.
3. Two things wrong with that: a) Mr Surplus plans to become Mr Deficit in the 2nd half. Why? The scary thing - he projects expenditure 2 b up 243%, when we know that at best in real terms GDP growth is going 2 b flat, at best +2%. Revenue will be up 82.6%
Functions of Money THREAD.
As you might have read already, the ED government has abolished the multicurrency regime and fast-tracked the reintroduction of the #ZimDollar. We will continue with our functions of money thread, but with brief responses to this new development.1
We are of the firm belief that policy debates, especially on important subjects like the national currency, should be conducted in an open, transparent and jargon-free manner. I challenge Hon Mthuli/Mangudya to do a lecture on currency reform at UZ, NUST of MSU.2
Today we are focusing on the key functions of money, namely medium of exchange, unit of account, store of value and standard of deferred payments. Anyone who has done 'O' level economics would know this stuff. 3 @GutuObert@buildzimbabwe@DrNkosana@drnmanyika@shumba327@zimlive
Characteristics of Money, #ZimCurrencyDebate THREAD.
For a country which is OPEN FOR BUSINESS (@edmnangagwa) and want to tell the world that ZIMBABWE IS A GOOD BUY (@MthuliNcube ), we have to understand and conform to the 6 characteristics of money/currency. 1/10 @Busisa74
I remember #Mangudya was asked a simple question on international TV, "how would the investor in Zimbabwe repatriate his profit?" The Governor struggled to answer, becoz he wasn't prepared for a basic question on whether Zim's currency met the basic characteristics of money. 2/10
There are 6 characteristics of money : durability, portability, divisibility, uniformity, limited supply, and acceptability. All of them are very critical. But how do we use the characteristics of money to our advantage for successful business & national development? 3/10
