On 6/18 @GovDunleavy sent a letter to Chief Justice Bolger telling him to order that the budget is defective without a 2/3 effective date vote.

Unbelievable that Dept of Law allowed this, bc it’s wildly improper to engage in direct (what’s called “ex parte”) contact (1/?) #akleg
with a judge regarding a current or possible legal dispute.
Worse still, he just sued the legislature itself.
The Governor says he ‘just wants to follow the constitution’? He should read the whole thing—even the parts he doesn’t like
Article III, Section 16 prohibits (2/?) #akleg
the governor from suing the legislature. This was made clear by the Alaska Supreme Court in the Knowles v Leg Council case, applying it in identical circumstances. Dunleavy should be embarrassed that they filed this case seeing as how it should be immediately dismissed 3/? #akleg
The bottom line:
@GovDunleavy is suing the legislature in order to grant himself the power to shut down state govt, which will hurt Alaskans and damage our economy.
Yes, it’s an incompetent suit—but also mean-spirited and designed to hold 4/? #akleg
Alaska and Alaskans hostage for the sole purpose of leverage to get a jumbo PFD.
That’s right, @GovDunleavy is threatening a govt shutdown in order to create a $1.5 Billion budget deficit.
The suit will fail, but the lack of leadership should terrify us all.
5/5 #akleg
