Purple Group $PPE

Everyoneโ€™sโ€™ favorite overvalued share.

Letโ€™s look behind the curtain.

โ€ขIntroduction

Purple group is a financial service company.

Operates and runs:

-@EmperorAsset
-@EasyEquities

Weโ€™ll look at their TTM earnings and point out some key things that may be of interest to investors. #DYOR Image
โ€ขRevenue

Total Revenue = R207 208 000
(207 million 208 thousand )
โ€ขNet income

NI= R 21 861 000
(21 million 861 thousand)

Remember this is for the Trailing 12 month period. Data from Yahoo finance. โฌ‡๏ธ

โ€ขGross profit margin

Gross profit รท Total revenue

= R141 837 000 รท R207 208 000

= 68.45%

A measure of profitability. Telling us how well the company makes money from their products and services.
โ€ขNet profit margin

Net income รท Total Revenue

= R21 861 000 รท R207 208 000

= 10.55%

Purple Group is profitable, after all their costs are deducted.

But we need to determined valuation.
โ€ขOperating Margin

Works out the profit on sales it makes, after paying for variable costs. i.e wages ect.
Does not include tax.

R50 519 000 รท R207 208 000

= 24.38%
โ€ขShareholders equity

All assets - all liabilities

R625 463 000 - R 299 954 000

= R325 509 000 - ( minority interest)

= R297 974 000
( 298million)

Remember this,
goodwill is an asset too. Image
โ€ขGoodwill

- Brand name
- Customer base
- Proprietary Tech

Itโ€™s sort of an arbitrary price companies place on themselves.

-EE has about 1million users, so you are their asset, giving the brand value in essence.

P/Gโ€™s Goodwill price tag =
R281 287 000

Yip, R281 million
-Whyโ€™s this important?

Well, these are intangible assets, you canโ€™t really sell these assets to release cash flow.
Goodwill is reported in the assets section on a balance sheet.

P/Gโ€™s shareholder equity is R298million
(R281mill is goodwill)

Donโ€™t fear, all companies do this.
โ€ขCurrent Ratio

Current assets รท Current liabilities

R256 164 000 รท R255 981 000

= 1.0007.

Purple group has just enough cash to cover short term liabilities. Not much liquidity.

In fact, only about R184 000 in working capital. Itโ€™s improving, prior years were negative.
โ€ขEarnings Per Share

Net income รท outstanding shares

R21 861 000 รท 982 569 000

= 0.02

They are making 2c a share for us shareholders.
- Purple group has been increasing their shares year on year, and have increased their shares by 5% since 2017.

Yip, you guessed it. They are diluting shareholders to expand. Which is normal for a business like this.

Debt or dilution is needed, or a combination of both.
โ€ขPrice Earnings Ratio

Share price รทEPS

(Worked with a share price of R1.56)

P/E = 78%

Theyโ€™ll need to grow into their earnings to justify current valuations. Growth stock. More risk = more reward.

Do you have conviction?
โ€ขReturn on Equity

Net income รท shareholders equity (remember goodwill)

R21 861 000 รท R297 974 000

= 7.3%
โ€ขReturn on Assets

Net Income รท Total assets

R21 861 000 รท R 625 463 000

(remember goodwill, considered an asset)

= 3.49%
โ€ขKey takeaways

- R184k in working capital
- Diluting shareholders by issuing more stock

- Total assets are โฌ†๏ธ but so are total liabilities.
(Remember goodwill) more customers = more goodwill.

- Physical assets are worth only R16 687 000 (16mill)
- Goodwill = R281 million

National Treasury is one of many departments of the South African Government

The Treasury falls within the portfolio of the Minister of Finance, and the role of NT is to manage the Governmentโ€™s Finances.

The South African Revenue Service (SARS) and Statistics South Africa also fall under this wing.

โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”-

The Gold and Foreign Exchange Contingency Reserve Account is a tool used to safeguard the country's financial stability.

This accountโ€™s purpose is in its name, it holds the reserves of gold and foreign currencies South Africa has built up.

The story dates back to 1886 and can be traced to the days of the Johannesburg Gold rush.

Here is how a man with a small brewery in Northern Natal led to the historic legacy of the South African Breweries (SAB)
โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”

Charles Glass, British-Born-Brewer, established Glass & Co in 1864, which ended up giving birth to a global powerhouse in the later years.

As time passed, he saw a money making opportunity in the market, to provide miners with beer in the Witwatersrand Reef

The beer soon became a hit that Charles and his wife, Lisa, decided to set up their brewery in the business centre of the town to capture the influx of fortune seekers coming to Witwatersrand Reef.

The phrase โ€œ๐——๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด ๐—ฎ ๐—ด๐—ผ๐—น๐—ฑ ๐—ฟ๐˜‚๐˜€๐—ต, ๐˜€๐—ฒ๐—น๐—น ๐—ฏ๐—ฒ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜€โ€, seems more appropriate hereโ€.

His beer brew took some time to gain traction, it was only when Charles Glassโ€™s new beer, ๐—–๐—ฎ๐˜€๐˜๐—น๐—ฒ ๐—•๐—ฒ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ, was introduced that he won the miners over and secured the market.

It was in 1884 that Castleโ€™s famous label, ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ฒ-๐˜๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฑ ๐—ณ๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐˜๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜€, ๐˜„๐—ฎ๐˜€ ๐—ถ๐—ป๐˜๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—ฑ๐˜‚๐—ฐ๐—ฒ๐—ฑ.

โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”

As a result of his success with Castle Beer, he renamed his business to โ€œ๐—–๐—ฎ๐˜€๐˜๐—น๐—ฒ ๐—•๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐˜„๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜†โ€ and focused on distribution, to expand.

Other brewing companies grew interested in Charles Success, and soon realized the market was MASSIVE in the Witwatersrand.

Because of this astonishing growth, Frederick Mead, another brewer from Pietermaritzburg, negotiated to purchase Castle Brewery in
July of 1892.

Frederick Meadโ€™s brewing empire combined with Castle brewery ๐˜๐—ผ ๐—ณ๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—บ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—ฆ๐—ผ๐˜‚๐˜๐—ต ๐—”๐—ณ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ฎ๐—ป ๐—•๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐˜„๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ฒ๐˜€ (๐—ฆ๐—”๐—•) ๐—ถ๐—ป ๐Ÿญ๐Ÿด๐Ÿต๐Ÿฑ.Image

He focused on making chappies attractive to children by having the famous โ€œ๐——๐—ถ๐—ฑ ๐˜†๐—ผ๐˜‚ ๐—ธ๐—ป๐—ผ๐˜„โ€ questions on the inside of each wrapper.

๐——๐—ถ๐—ฑ ๐˜†๐—ผ๐˜‚ ๐—ธ๐—ป๐—ผ๐˜„:

A cartoon chipmunk was inserted under โ€œChappiesโ€ on the wrapper.

Management felt that rural black children who possibly couldnโ€™t read needed to be able distinguish the real Chappies from any substitutes on the market, and the chipmunk was that distinctive feature.
