Daniels Conference Report- FINAL DRAFT 2.5 - PDF version - MARCH 2018.docx
Metis Settlement Act - up till 2019 - Ms Tallbear - I know you are from the US, who does not recognize Metis peoples but here in Canada we do. Canada has 2 National organizations with accords with the Canadian Government. @KimTallBear
I am not sure how well acquainted you are with Metis history in Canada, I do know Canada and you and Darryl Leroux are doing your best to re-write it, but let me give you a small history lesson on it. NCC which started with the prairie Metis, made a national organization called
The Native Council of Canada, in the 70's. They accepted Metis from coast to coast in Canada. The NCC is who got Metis repatriated into the Constitution of 1982, Harry Daniels was president and usually accredited for that, with Jim Sinclair and several others.
MNC got their knickers in a knot and left NCC, they made their non profit organization in 1983 and registered it as non profit , in 1984. They are a voluntary body, made up of several affiliate non profit societies collectively. The courts have decided several times now,
that they are not governmental nor sovereign as it stands right now. They are a self identified people, in a self proclaimed nation, who belong to a voluntary body called MNC collectively. They are not a public body and their bylaws only apply to their own membership.

You keep saying that metis does not mean European and Indigenous people, the original meaning meant exactly that & some organizations/settlements still use that definition. Who are recognized federally and provincially by the way. You might want to do some more research on Metis
As we all know, their membership only applies to 5 provinces as of now. Which seems to be dropping as time goes on with each affiliate membership going for their own governmental agreements. Anyways back to NCC and Harry Daniels.
Letter from Harry Daniels, when he was president of the NCC and repatriated metis into the constitution, to Kirby Lethbridge president of the Labrador Metis Nation. Harry explains very clearly who he meant to be Metis citizens under the constitution. Stop trying to define Metis
peoples who live in Canada. How would you like me defining your nation as a troublesome interfering nation. You would not like your whole nation defined by you would you? Same as you will not do the defining of our nations in Canada. Full Stop !!
Metis Settlement Act - legal Metis recognized by the Province and Federally. I notice you have never not once mentioned them in all your little identity talks. You might want to look up the Metis Settlement Act definition before you keep putting your foot into your mouth!
In actual fact, NCC when they repatriated Metis into the constitution refused to use MNC's definition. Constitutional meeting not a complete failure - MNC definition not approved by Native Council of Canada March 1984 - New Breed.
The Dynamics of Native Politics- The Alberta Metis Experience-Joe Sawchuk- UBC Press, Feb. 1, 1998 - History - MNC and NCC have different definitions of Metis.
RCAP 433 - Metis Circle Special Consultation - Frank Palmater - doesn't agree with MNC definition of Metis - they are exclusionary - I won't allow anyone to tell me who I am.
Behind the Scene of the Send First Ministers Conference on Aboriginal Constitutional Affairs-05190.vol15-3 Mar 1984 New Breed- Metis National Council trying to convince Native Council of Canada on Metis Definition.
Metis National Council - A brief to the Standing Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs - New Breed October 1983- pg 2 - at the same time we have provided for the future admission of other metis into the Metis National Council.

The Native Council of Canada is now CAP - Congress of Aboriginal People. I don't know how you do things in the US, but here the protocol is to usually check in with the nation you are speaking for. That is an ethical code of law.
As research Chair on Indigenous People , I am wondering how many of our communities you have approached to speak to because of course you would not be unethical and choose to speak over us, and declare that we have no culture or other markers of Indigenous people, right ?? So I
demand to know , as an Eastern Metis person, which community, since you are all so stuck on community approvals, which community you approached to get permission to decide on our Indigeneity and definitions of our nations? I am going to just go out on a limb here and think you
gave yourself that authority along with Darryl Leroux. I might not be be using the correct language with this, because I was disconnected from my nation and community and I am finding my way back. But I still demand to know who gave you authority to speak for us? That is not
Indigenous protocol, we have an inherent right to our own Indigenous laws, protocols and culture and you know it, and you will not be the one who decides our future, our collective communities will be.
mmf.mb.ca/membership.php… self determination = self-identified people and self-governing = self proclaimed nation ...
@thewalrus Jean Teillets liberal cabinet ministers family identify as French Canadians, many Metis identified as French Canadians , when is the expose gonna be run on her ?
Funny how I can't even see my own replies, guess they are not relevant eh @X
@X As I was saying about Randy Ranville and how many western Metis did not grow up in the culture, why MMF has to tell all these lies which are easily proven, I do not know. !!
While I agree with a lot of this article. It is writing from a point that they are listenjng to lies and historical revision. I don't know the author so im not sure if its goal is to try and further erase the Eastern Metis or not.
Truth, Metis were in the Union of Nova Scotia Indians bylaws in the 70s. Which is close to the time frame that Western Metis were rediscovering and connecting to their own roots.
@TimHoustonNS can you tell me how someone finds out what funding a company gets? Apple Valley Foods Inc, has made their employees take a week unpaid vacation in March, and they have just been told they need to do the same in August. WTH? This is a large company they are being
punished for being too productive? They have too many pies made and no buyers? But the contract workers from Mexico and the Philippines get to continue working and being paid. How is that legal when they are aren't even supposed to have those workers unless they can't find a
local person to do that job? But they can make the local people take weeks off whenever they feel like it because they are being too productive!! Jeff Sarsfield, why the hell are you punishing your employees for being productive? They now do not get to choose their own
Do you think that whoever made the lying judgement about me being 14 generations had any merit in the decisions of this case?
I really would love to know how I can find out how this Red River Metis judge appointed by the Liberals came to that conclusion? No mention that my Great Grandmother Evangeline Mius was 4 generations from 2 Peace and Friendship Treaty Signatories.
Ahh @CBCNews is at it again, all Indigenous organizations are self identified and you know that very well, including your beloved @MBMetis_MMF
Also, NunatuKavut, previously known as the Labrador Metis Nation, has been recognized by the Supreme Court of Canada. So not sure how you now call it an unrecognized Indigenous Organization.
