The recently delivered Special Mission aircraft aquired for NIMASA is operated by the 107th Air Maritime Group (Nigerian Air Force) at Benin. This unit also operates the ATR-42 maritime patrol aircraft.
When it comes to ISR, few nations take it as serious as Nigeria. The Nigerian military fields the most robust ISR force in Sub Saharan Africa, second only to Egypt in all of Africa.
In the world of assymtery the most important element in military operations are Intelligence and Communications, and few nations take it as serious as Nigeria.
Nigeria plans to enhance its decisive advantage amidst great power competition and an assymetric threats.
Most Air Forces have a culture and history that values ISR significantly below fighters. With Nigeria its the polar opposite. In recent years the NAF has prioritized resources to go to Intelligence gathering platforms, than on platforms than fighters.
The result is an ISR architecture that is unmatched. Superseded only by the Egyptian armed forces.
Nigeria's oil revenue are derived from offshore oil platforms located in the worlds most dangeorus waters..hence why Nigeria has priotised technology over steel.
The military currently operates four ISR/ISTAR AWACs aircraft assigned to the 107th Air Maritime Group. Comprising two ATR-42 aircaft, which is the most sophisticated maritime patrol plane in Africa.
This fleet has been complimented by two CJ-3 Maritime Patrol Planes, amongst the most modern in the world.
The NAF also operates Four King Air 350i surveillance aircaft.
..and six DA62 Diamond sensor aircraft, that features the latest in tracking and sensor technology and among the most versatile airborne platform in its class.
In October 2020 the NAF created the 203 Combat Reconnaissance Group. Based in Gombe, Its the only Combat Reconnaisance Squadron in Africa today. The NAF 203 CRG will house the armed component of Nigeria's ISR architecture.

A French based NGO busted by security operatives training sharp shooters in a hotel in Borno.
Ive said it before and have written countless threads on the external dimension of the insurgency. Each time the Nigerian army begin making gains Amnesty International and other NGOs swoop into action.
In 2019 a Paris Based NGO - Action Against Hunger was caught in the forest giving food and medicine to Boko Haram fighters. They were given 48 hours to leave the country. The military has been making gains in recent weeks and it was only a matter of time before they strike.
The Nigerian army should consider aquiring the Turkish made Korkut 35mm short range self propelled anti-aircraft artillery, to replace the Soviet era ZSU Shilker as part of its force modernization program.
The Korkut air defence artillery is designed to engage low flying aircafts, helicopters, drones and missile. Its 35mm automatic cannon can engage ground targets at a range of over 30km. It has an auto electronic station designed to capture targets in all weather conditions.
The turret of the vehicle has an automated ammunition supply system that can switch from high explosive incendiary rounds to tracer rounds in as little as 12 seconds. Its two weapons station can fire up to 1,100 rounds a minute. up to a range of 4km.
Hours after a failed attempt at trying to take an airbase in Kaduna, bandits in Talata and Bungundy LGA of Zamfara engaged army formations in a pincer attack. They were spotted by ISR aircaft, giving troops warning time.
Troops held fire until they were within range before of 122mm Howitzers before opening fire. Eliminating scores of bandits instantly. The survivers fled, leaving behind their rifles, mobile phones and motorcycles.
They ran straight into troops of the 8 Division who were on a fighting patrol along Mayanchi Dogo Karge and Fagantama villages in Zamfara and had no idea of the fighting and opened fire on them. A fierce fighting ensued as the bandits were overwhelmed by superior firepower.
BREAKING: DSS Invites Sheikh Gumi After Alleging Military-Bandits' Collusion In Attacks On Citizens.
It appears men of the DSS has invited Sheikh Gumi for serious questioning. Gumi has spent the last 72 hours denigrading the military after his request for blanket Amnesty for bandits was thrown out the window.
Gumi claimed the Nigerian military was collaborating with bandits who engage in killing and kidnapping for ransom. He described bandits and killer herdsmen’s atrocities as “a tribal war,” accusing the government of taking sides.
Snipers are some of the unheralded heroes on the Nigerian army thanks to the secret nature of their operations.
Sniping is not all about shooting and killing. It may suprise many to know that the first job of a sniper is to gather lifetime information of the battlefield.
Snipers are trained to remain perfectly still for hours or days on end when in position, and remain invisible to enemies. During the battle for Konduga, snipers were deployed to give overwatch for Nigerian troops preparing to move into Kunduga after days
Its been 72 hours after Gumi's request for billions blanket Amnesty is thrown out the window, and 48 hours after Gumi's audacious accusations against the Nigerian military.
Sheikh Gumi is still a free man.
The nature of the accusations show you that Gumi believes there is billions to be made..and if the government refuses to pay billions in Amnesty to bandits, then someone else must have cornered the billions. Dont take my word fof it. Read from the horses mouth:
QUOTE
The bandits told me the military does not want insecurity to end because "of the billions of naira" they siphon from the big budget marked annually on security.
END
In other words Nigeria has the option of yielding to black mail and releasing billions of naira
