William Barr knew Trump’s mass voter fraud claims were “bullshit” from the beginning. Trump had telegraphed his plan for months (years!) before the 2020 election. Yet Barr let those ugly lies ferment for nearly a month after the election. Joined @AliciaMenendez to discuss:
That’s in addition to allowing a top Trump-appointed federal prosecutor in Pennsylvania issue a highly unusual public statement in Sept. 2020 about an ongoing investigation (into an election worker’s mistake) that further fueled bogus claims about mass voter fraud.
What Trump did after the 2020 election was so incredibly predictable that you could’ve prewritten your story about it ahead of time. He made clear what he was going to do over and over and over again. huffpost.com/entry/trump-vo…

NEW: Attorney General Merrick Garland says lawsuit alleges Georgia’s voting law was "enacted with the purpose of denying or abridging” the rights of Black voters. huffpost.com/entry/georgia-…
Garland says new memo will instruct prosecutors and the FBI to prioritize the investigation of threats against elections officials.
Garland also said Georgia’s law likely never would have gone into effect if DOJ could still do what it could before the Supreme Court’s decision eight years ago.
