UPDATE: We are signing off for the evening with an update on the Sparks Lake wildfire (K21001) that is now estimated at 2300 hectares. The fire saw significant growth throughout the day because of the hot weather and dry conditions in the area.
Due to the fire behaviour on site, the @TNRD has issued an Evacuation Alert for 150 properties in the Deadman, Red Lake, Tranquille Valley and Vidette Lake areas. Sustained 24 hour response continues and 20 personnel will continue to work throughout the night.
The hot weather continues to cause challenges. Multiple helicopters had to shut down due to engines overheating. Suppression efforts where impacted due to the helicopters restricted lifting capacity in heat, limiting the amount of water they can put in their buckets at a time.

As of today at noon, campfires are prohibited throughout the province of British Columbia. Please note, the current prohibitions do not apply to CSA-rated or ULC-rated devices.
A CSA or ULC rating indicates that a fire pit or stove has been inspected, tested and certified to meet or exceed safety and performance standards. Outdoor gas appliance standards outline design and engineering guidelines to ensure control of flame height and containment.
Without certification, is it is not guaranteed that surrounding fuels are protected from ignition, therefore, portable campfire apparatus that do not meet these standards are prohibited.
