So my professor of marginalized studies hat just went on. For those following the new TSR thing I'd suggest a few points of further education. 1st people use the word and concept of Intersectionality without really understanding it all the time. They conflate intersectional 1/
with non-marginalized identities. Being a nerd and getting bullied for it is not a marginalized identity. The overwhelming majority of TTRPGs players in the early years were white men who despite being picked on had systemic power. The argument that nerdy (or poor 2/
or whatever) white people also suffered misunderstands the issues that people from actual marginalized groups face. Yes, you suffered. No it is not the same as the issues PoC, LBGTQIA+, women or any other marginalized people face daily. The fact that some think these are 3/
even close to equivalent only highlights the way systemic power blinds people to the unseen, often intangible advantages they possess. /4
Lastly, marginalization is not some sort of competition. Belonging to multiple categories does not mean someone is more marginalized it just means the various intersections of those identities make a person's experiences different that those who belong to /5
Those identities. Not better or worse, different in ways that change the experiences a person has. For more info read about the court case DeGraffenreid v. GENERAL MOTORS and the work of Kimberlé Crenshaw who coined the term intersectionality in reference to this case. /6
Allow me to clarify, as my thoughts and words differ here. Poverty is indeed a systemic issue but in my head I was thinking of those who claim the experiences of poor whites equates to the suffering of PoC, LBGTQIA+, etc., which is untrue.
