From ‘Billie Holiday’ to ‘Many Saints of Newark,’ Variety’s Producers Class of 2021 Are on the cutting edge. We're highlighting 10 emerging producers to watch this year from around the globe. bit.ly/2UNL1zd
With “La Civil,” the first feature from his new production company, Belgian Flemish producer Hans Everaert finds his many risks paying off. The film follows a Mexican mother searching for her daughter kidnapped by members of a drug cartel.
New Slate Ventures’ Jeremy Allen and Jordan Fudge have proven they have an eye for great stories and the industry savviness to get them seen. After selling “The 40-Year-Old Version” to Netflix in 2020, they shepherded “The United States vs. Billie Holiday” to a Golden Globe win.
In their first collaboration on a feature project, mother Hrönn Kristindóttir and daughter Sara Nassim of the Icelandic production company Go to Sheep hit paydirt with their unusual drama “Lamb,” set to premiere in Cannes’ Un Certain Regard.
After learning the ropes as an assistant, Nicole Lambert graduated to shadowing “The Sopranos” creator David Chase in the development of his prequel film: “I find it very interesting stepping into another time and place. And I got to do that on ‘The Many Saints of Newark.’”
Former WME agent Lindsey McManus teamed up with Elisabeth Moss to launch Love & Squalor Pictures, developing projects both for Moss to star in and contribute to behind the scenes. The pair currently executive produces “The Shining Girls” for Apple.
Currently developing and producing for Seine Pictures, Lauren Mekhael recently premiered “Larry Flynt for President” at Tribeca, a documentary using a wealth of unearthed footage to explore a little-known footnote in the 1984 presidential election.
Siena Oberman's 2018 drama “Skin” made a splash on the fest circuit, while films like “Mainstream,” from Gia Coppola, explore relationships in the internet age, and the recently released “The Birthday Cake,” from Jimmy Giannopoulos, offers a twist on mobster movies.
Can Jussi Rantamäki and director Juho Kuosmanen score a hat-trick at Cannes with “Compartment No. 6?" Their collaboration, “The Painting Sellers,” nabbed the Cinefondation award; later their first feature, “The Happiest Day in The Life of Olli Mäki” topped Un Certain Regard.
It took 20 years for Lyn Sisson-Talbert to get “Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey” off the ground. But since its debut, she and husband David E. Talbert, the film's writer and director, have inked a multi-year first-look deal with Netflix under Golden Alchemy Entertainment.
Beijing-based Shawn Xiang Yue recently set up Bamboo Curtain after making “Detective Chinatown 3” for director Sichen Chen. The Feb. 22 release grossed $680 million in China. “I have always been fascinated by this job, and love working with creative talent,” Yue says.

From #TheDropout to #Euphoria to #Andor, our chief TV critics sifted through an avalanche of shows to pick their favorites from this year. See which ones they chose here: bit.ly/3Bh9ob4
"Abbott Elementary"

"Quinta Brunson’s ABC comedy about a hardworking, charismatic group of Philadelphia teachers was so immediately realized...that it feels like it’s been on for years rather than months." – Caroline Framke bit.ly/3Bh9ob4
"Barry"

"The drama and the jokes were operating at their highest level yet in this year’s third season. Barry’s journey into unrepentant inner darkness was played beautifully by Bill Hader, but the season belonged to Sarah Goldberg." – Daniel D'Addario bit.ly/3Bh9ob4
