There are many reasons to have contempt for Kevin McCarthy. He seems to be a man absent any virtues except an easy amiability and indefatigable spirit in pursuit of pleasing other Members vanities. He has a virtuosos talent for personal debasement in the performance of the small
political tasks that determine the rise and fall of GQP flotsam in Conference politics. McCarthy is many things; he is deeply dishonest and cynical. He is selfish and self interested. He doesn’t care for much of anything beyond his primacy in the club he has mastered (2)
with a combination of obsequiousness, flattery and fundraising shamelessness. He makes stupid statements and contradicts himself at the firing pace of a Gatling gun. He oozes an intellectual lightness that makes one wonder if he might simply float
away when he opens his mouth. His lack of principle and core convictions are self evident to any person with the wits of a field mouse. All of these things are worthy of contempt but none of them approaches the despicability of his greatest vice (4)
He is a coward. He has betrayed the ideas and ideals of the American Revolution with his embrace of authoritarianism. There is no lie he won’t tell. There is no act he will not commit in the name of power. He has led the charge in obliterating faith and belief in the legitimacy
of the American system of government, not because he believes in Trump or the autocratic cause but rather because he believes in nothing at all. Nothing. That’s the sin. He is a man to whom the country has given everything it can give. He is a taker. Think about great Patriots
like General Benjamin O Davis, John Lewis, Rosa Parks and Dr.King. The country offered these people nothing. It scorned their love and yet they had the power to believe in the possibility of the promise of an idea and had faith about what could be. They were brave and strong.
They loved the country McCarthy has betrayed. It is an empty and loathsome betrayal that will one day consign him to a place of ignominy. He has desecrated the blood sacrifices of ten generations of Americans who have fought to bend the arc towards justice and expand the promise
of American freedom. He did these things because he was afraid of mean tweets and the possibility of being politically bruised by standing for the right. He deserves all of our contempt and when we are all celebrating on the 4th we should ponder the sacrifices made by Men and
Women who defended and expanded freedom in this country with nothing but moral and physical courage. We celebrate heroes on the 4th, not cowards. What a lonely day it must be for the lowly leader of the 21st Century autocratic Bund @GOPLeader Kevin McCarthy, a name that will
Stain his great grandchildren as surely as the name Arnold stained Benedict’s . What a disgrace.

Let’s dissect this a bit. First, @marcorubio does a tremendous job showing the difference between Patriotism and jingoism. Jingoism is easy; it’s a lazy and vapid persons idea of patriotism. It requires no duty and imposes no obligations. It is a perfectly empty ideology and
thus attracts empty vessels like @marcorubio. Blustering statements aimed at straw men are the clear mark of an early stage jingoist, which Rubio surely is. The country is a great one in spite of men like Rubio, who are to self interested to stand up and defend Democracy from an
autocratic assault. @marcorubio is a shirker. When Trumps violent autocratic movement took root in America, Marco Rubio appeased it before he collaborated with it before he helped it whitewash a murderous insurrection. Marco Rubio is a founding father of sorts. He is one

You don’t have the guts to say Donald Trump lost the election fair and square. You didn’t vote in the ‘16 election but had the common sense to say Trump would be good for women. You hired Brad Parscale, Trump’s fired manager. You have jumped fully on board with the @FoxNews
CRT race baiting nonsense and called for confining homeless people to “open fields”. You have talked about dealing with California’s eastern front which is Arizona and Nevada, what does that even mean? You are deeply unqualified to be the Governor of California. Last thought,
Timing is an under appreciated factor in campaigns. Your biggest problem isn’t your ignorance and unpreparedness, it’s the fact that the whole country just watched a narcissistic personality disordered reality show host kill hundreds of thousands of Americans with venality and

158 years ago at this hour the largest artillery barrage in the history of the Western Hemisphere was underway in preparation for the Confederate Infantry Assault against the entrenched Union positions on top of Cemetery Ridge. (1)
At 2:00pm (est) 15,000 Confederate Soldiers stepped forward on a one mile uphill death march. They were a sea of humanity that spanned more than one mile across. Under the command of MG George Pickett the Confederate force had been ordered by Robert E Lee to smash the Union Lines
at the center. The Union Commander, General George Meade, had anticipated Lee’s attack and was ready. Within the next hours we will pass the exact moment of anniversary that denotes the high water mark of the Confederacy, the penetration of Union lines at the Bloody Angle. (3)

I’d like to talk about this recall election and @GavinNewsom. No Governor of California has ever faced the magnitude of multiple crisis that Newsom has faced. From Covid to apocalyptic fires he has led the nations largest state with dignity, empathy and competence. He has been
tested and has met the moment. The candidates running in the recall to replace him are a specific type of Olympian, competitors in a farce of self interest, masturbatory self indulgence, fame seeking and political extremism. Each of them is manifestly unfit to hold any type of
public responsibility and since we watched Trump kill hundreds of thousands of people through neglect, stupidity, selfishness, insanity and incompetence it seems worth mentioning that all of this is being funded and driven by Trump loving political extremists who hate California

245 years ago today on July 2, 1776 the Lee Resolution was passed unanimously and the United States of America was born. The Continental Congress had formed a five person committee in early June to prepare a Declaration of Independence. John Adams, Thomas Jefferson (1)
Benjamin Franklin, Robert Livingston and Roger Sherman were the members. There were two passages rejected by the whole of Congress. One was a denunciation of the English people and the other a condemnation of the Atlantic Slave trade. (2)
The Declaration of Independence was approved two days later by 12 of the 13 States and signed by 56 men. The document concluded with the following lines, “And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other (3)

Let’s unpack the disgrace of the fascist attacks made by @TuckerCarlson @FoxNews @newscorp @mattgaetz, the Murdoch Family and the NewsCorps Board of Directors on the highest ranking uniformed Officer of the Armed Forces of the United States of America. (1)
General Milley wears the Uniform of the United States Army which was founded 14 June 1775. He is an American soldier and his uniform connects him to a tradition of service and blood sacrifice in defense of freedom that is 246 years old. (2)
Milley’s uniform bears a small arm patch depicting an eagle. It is the Division insignia of the 101st Airborne. That patch connects Milley to a story of American courage, grit, sacrifice and heroism that beggars imagination. It marks him as a type of American Knight. (3)
