As a young professional wanting to start a family, Malaysia doesn't seem like an ideal place to settle in anymore.
Because let's be honest, what's waiting for my kids in the next 20 years to come?
An increasingly radical education system that makes them feel excluded and alienated for not being a part of the majority?
Close to 0 opportunities offered to nurture their talents? Them having to work their butts off for a token seat at the table while having their peers who have less than half the merit lead?
Racism and microaggressions at school, college, university, the workplace, or even at the restaurant?
Being told to leave every time they express their discontent at the state of affairs because they ‘hanya menumpang’?
Having to spend a fortune on their education because the govt doesn’t regard them as equal, while the others get practically a free ride?
Oh, God forbid they aren’t heterosexual and cisgender.
Inequality, racism, and cronyism have cost us a lot in brain drain.
Intellectuals that could've helped steer us through this crisis are in other countries benefitting them and we’re left with a bunch of incompetent morons that only have their own self-interest on their minds.
From the day it was agreed that a particular race was above the others, and policies started favouring one race while disregarding the others, that was the day the seeds of a failed state were sown.
P.S. It almost feels cruel to knowingly give birth to humans into a country that classifies them as second class citizens at birth. Where, just being born as they are, puts them at a disadvantage.
Having been through this system, how could I, in clear conscience, subject another life to the same fate?
Best to migrate or not have a family at all.
Thanks, Malaysia. 👍🏻
