Gbenga Adeboye,the one and only Alaye mi Gbengulo.

Elijah Oluwagbenga Adeboye was born in Ode Omu Osun state Nigeria.

On September 30th,1959 to Pa Adeboye and Rebecca Tinuola Adeboye.

Gbenga Adeboye was a versatile entertainer,An orator, comedian,master
Of ceremony,broadcaster and songwriter.

In the early 80s,he joined the Radio Lagos,his programme on Radio Lagos gave him the pseudo- name Funwotan.

This program was later re-baptised to Gbenga Adeboye in the mix on Radio Lagos and
Gbenga Adeboye in the house on OGBC.

Some of his works include Funwotan 1&2,Ph.D Beetle,ijinle oro lati ori ite mimo 1&2,Aiyetoro, supremacy and controversy,pasan oro,orosunkunnu 1&2 e.t.c

His method was composing songs on one side and crafting comedy on
The other.

He admonished via songs like Iya(mother) and Yorùbá Ronu and just cracked fans up on track like london yabbis.

Who can never forget his characters like itu baba ita and laisi Abesunpinle.

He was a ventriloquist comedian who could mimic
Nearly twenty voices during a set.

Gbenga Adeboye's popularity earned him several nicknamed.

Some of the names are Funwotan, Alhaji pastor oluwo,Abefe,Jengbetiele,itu baba ita.

He combined his radio career with comedy, often teasing his fans by
Delivering strings of jokes that he promised to complete on his next ablum.

During his lifetime and at his death,he was described as a generous, open-handed, bounteous and carefree person.

Alaye mi Gbengulo,as he was called by fans, was a mentor to many.
Some of those who hold him in high esteem are Abbey Fagboro,Ereke ni soobu, Bashorun Adisa knowns as Baba Gboin.

Fathia Balogun, nollywood actress hit limelight when she featured as a dancer in one of his music.

Seun Adeboye,one of the sisters of the late
Comedian,prince Gbenga Adeboye,a presenter and a singer.

Dedicated one of her ablums to her late brother titled 'Omo Majemu' (covenant child).

She talked about his family, personal life and his death. She described him as Wednesday man.
His sister narrated how he lived before he hit limelight and how Wednesday was special in his life.

According to her,he was born on Wednesday, began his education on Wednesday,started presenting on Wednesday,had his first trip to America on Wednesday
He released his first album on Wednesday.

Gbenga Adeboye died on Wednesday 30th April 2003 and was laid to rest on Wednesday 14th may 2003 in Jolasco Akute Ogun state.

The funeral of Aláàfin in the old Oyo kingdom.

It's very important to know about our past and present culture and tradition.

Even though some of this custom are now abolished.

In the old Oyo kingdom,the Aláàfin are buried in the Barà.
The funeral usually takes place at night.

It is notified to the public by the sounding of the Okinkin, the ivory trumpet, and the Koso drum.

A drum which is usually beaten every morning at 4.am,as a signal for the Aláàfin to rise from
The bed,to beat the Koso drum at night.

Therefore is to indicate that he is retiring to his final resting place.

The body is moved to the Barà on the back of those whose duty is to bury the Aláàfin.

It's folklore time!!

Sigidi, a idol was regarded as a very important part of Ayede town.

He is a god in his own right, However unlike other clay gods.

He could talk, everybody deferred to him and no one dared question him,not even the king.
He was carried to wherever he wanted to go and saw whatever he wanted to see.

People adored him and he enjoyed the best offerings among all the idols in the town.

Whatever he asked for became his.

One day, while he was been carried along the bank
Of the river.

He saw people swimming and wanted to join in,but his request was turned down.

That was Sigidi's first ever request to be refused.

And he was not happy at all. He moped,he complained and he threatened until his request was granted.

The Owu-Ife War (1821-1828)

It was one of the series of civil wars in the 19th century in Yorùbá land.

The Owu-Ife War was a bloody battle fought by the people of Owu and Ile-Ife.
