Just a reminder: Ghislaine Maxwell, accused of recruiting teenage girls for Jeffrey Epstein from 1994 to 2004, was slated to go to trial this week. The trial was moved to Nov to allow her more time to assemble a defense against sex-trafficking charges: apnews.com/article/nh-sta…

Ghislaine Maxwell, who is now 59 -- and is likely to turn 60 while on trial for sex-trafficking -- has been denied bail three times now. Maxwell is also under investigation by the U.S. Virgin Islands’ Justice Department in connection with Epstein's private island.

Throughout this spring and into summer, billionaires tied to Jeffrey Epstein, such as Leslie Wexner, Bill Gates and Leon Black have taken professional and reputational hits due to their associations with him (Bill Clinton is not a billionaire).

An article just out by @gabrielsherman in @VanityFair details how Epstein was blatant about his obsession with money and underage girls, displaying copies of Nabokov's 'Lolita' on his desk and a book by the Marquis de Sade (rumored to be 'Justine, or the Misfortunes of Virtue').

In the VF article, @gabrielsherman reports Epstein's hold over Wexner was near-absolute, with 'free reign' over the billionaire's finances and power of attorney. But no one seems to know why Wexner handed Epstein this level of unchecked power: vanityfair.com/news/2021/06/i…

Billionaire Leon Black reportedly used Epstein for "tax- and estate-planning services" and, like Wexner, paid Epstein well in excess of a hundred of million dollars for it, which needs further explaining. As a result, he was forced out of his company: wsj.com/articles/leon-…

Bill Gates, as @nytimes pointed out, actually started hanging out with Epstein after Epstein was convicted of sex crimes. Many on Wall Street invited to Epstein's house throughout the years decided not to attend precisely for this reason. Why was Gates different?

As Ghislaine Maxwell goes to trial, it will be key to watch how the sex-trafficking and financial shenanigans (aka "tax- and estate-planning services") intersect. Even billionaires need not pay hundreds of millions for tax preparation. And Epstein's island was very close to BVI.

To everyone who's reaching out as a result of my appearance on @gregolear's Prevail podcast, please know your kindness and support mean the world to me. I came to Jersey island having really no idea what I would find there -- I first just went there to see friends.

But over time, I came to love the island and could not bear to see what was happening to hundreds of children there. I could not understand it. How can anyone close their eyes to the pain of children? And often, when I cannot understand something, I write about it.

In the spring of 2010, after passing in my first book, I took what little money I had left from my book advance, put all my belongings into storage, and spent the summer in Jersey and the UK researching what was going on, and why. I thought I'd be done by August -- I was wrong!

Never forget: Tax shelters & human rights abuses are linked.

Operation Rectangle was initially a secret investigation, because the police on the island of Jersey feared widespread interference by Jersey's political establishment and ruling elite.

In the end, the police were threatened and ultimately driven from their jobs. After the probe was shut down, Jersey filled in the basement of the children's home, Haut de la Garenne, with cement.

The cellars are where some of the worst of the children's remains were found.
