/9 History and archives of national associations today. Is this information prominent; used to inform their work; and freely available to anyone who visits the website of OT associations?
/9 Using the UK as an example: historical information on, or signposted by @the RCOT rcot.co.uk. NB: excludes books, journal articles, grey literature.
/9 What historical information can be seen by anyone looking at the website of your professional organisation? Let’s create a baseline for international comparison.
/9 A timeline of significant dates for the organisation (1932 to 2017) and memorials in the ‘about us’ section at rcot.co.uk/about-us/our-h… suggestions
/9 Where are the archives? A search produces vintage covers of RCOT – access limited to members. In the Wellcome Collection in London. Search the catalogue SA/BAO wellcomecollection.org/works?query=SA…
/9 There are 36 boxes covering 1936-1997; 124 boxes deposited between 2002-2013 plus collections in the RCOT Library and at former OT Schools /Universities according to wellcomecollection.org/works/kezjvtyt
/9 Are there OT archives for Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales? Wellcome mentions records at Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen. Any information?
/9 Sadly, little historical information and no link to the Wellcome archive @the RCOT Hope more available to members and HQ team - to support their organisational memory and leadership e.g. marking centenaries/envisioning the future.
Afterthought: Archives contain precious documents, artefacts, photos = so vulnerable to being disposed of and lost. Vital for historical research and on-going learning. How can we stop the loss?
