Dispatches has obtained this disturbing and never before seen footage of police forcibly removing children from their mother to be taken to go to live with their father. 1/
Torn Apart: Family Courts Uncovered - Tuesday at 10pm on @Channel4
@Channel4 There is no suggestion that the children are at risk of neglect or abuse with their mother. The children say they want to live with her. But the family court has ordered they be taken, by force if need be, to live with their father. 2/
@Channel4 Family courts make decisions about what is best for children. These are not child protection cases involving abuse or neglect, they are private battles between parents. But some cases can end up with kids being forcibly removed against their will, in distressing circumstances. 3
@Channel4 One of the problems is that a 1960 law intended to protect children says that nothing that happens in a family court can ever be reported without the express permission of the judge. So there is no public accountability when things go wrong. 4/
@Channel4 The accusation here is of parental alienation - which can undoubtedly harm children. And the primary objective is for the child to be able to enjoy meaningful relationship with both of their parents. 5/
@Channel4 But how do courts assess these claims, and are some interventions equally, or perhaps even more damaging? 6/
@Channel4 Many lawyers say that forcible removals like this are rare.
But in an online survey 297 experienced family solicitors and barristers told us they had witnessed this kind of enforced removal. They reported 42 over the last 3 years. This suggests they are not so uncommon. 7/
@Channel4 So what evidence is there that they have the desired effect and help children develop healthy relationships with both parents? 8/
@Channel4 We approached several expert witnesses who have advised courts on parental alienation, but none agreed to take part in this programme. 9/

“It could have been nipped in the bud at the beginning of his career had he been pulled up on it.”
@C4Dispatches and @thetimes spoke to people who accuse @channel4 and the @BBC of failing to act against Brand. #C4Dispatches #RussellBrand
Channel 4 say they have carried out extensive document searches and have found no evidence to suggest the alleged incidents were brought to the attention of Channel 4…
Channel 4 say they are asking the production company who produced the programmes for Channel 4 to investigate and report their findings. They say today they have a zero-tolerance approach to unacceptable behaviour and a robust Code of Conduct…
A woman shares her story about her experiences with Russell Brand with @C4Dispatches in a joint investigation with @thetimes.
Brand denies all accusations including rape, sexual assault and controlling and emotionally abusive behaviour.
In response to the allegations in this film, Russell Brand said, “What I seriously refute are these very very serious criminal allegations..."
He said: "There are witnesses whose evidence directly contradicts the narratives that these two mainstream media outlets are trying to construct, apparently in what seems to me to be a coordinated attack.”
Illegal child labour is being used to supply cocoa beans to Cadbury – Britain’s favourite chocolate brand.
#Dispatches has been undercover in Ghana where children as young as 10 have been working gruelling hours to supply cocoa beans to Cadbury.
“Did it hurt?”
Young children bear scars from the dangerous work they do using sharp knives and machetes on coca farms linked to Cadbury. Other children are seen struggling with heavy loads, long hours and dangerous tools.
“I suffer a lot when I am farming.”
Some of the children working here have been sent by their families to live and work on the farms, stopping them from going to school.
One of the experts who advised the Department for Work and Pensions on the benefit system, and raised concerns was clinical psychologist Professor Geoff Shepherd. 2/
#Dispatches conducted a survey which shows many disabled people feel this system impacts their health. We contacted 80,000 disabled benefit claimants and had over 3,500 responses. 3/
