if you are reporting on the Bezos spaceflight tomorrow, please mention the carbon emissions
also if you need to go to space to be more compassionate towards others, you can accomplish the same thing volunteering at a food pantry, getting involved in a local mutual aid organization, or simply reading a lot about your country's history of discrimination
there have literally been historic floods in several parts of the world just in the last two weeks so the issue of adding significantly more carbon to the atmosphere due to the use of highly-combustive fuel to propel these Bezos space vehicles is not a journalistic reach
don't forget to drink a big glass of water today

a lot of great employment shifts in jobs like healthcare, election officials, media, food service, and teaching can be summarized as such: 1. people were mistreated for a long time 2. the mistreatment became significantly worse due to Covid-19 3. all these people are exhausted
there needs to be more reporting about why this mistreatment was allowed to persist for such a long time; the eradication of unions and 40-hour workweeks through contract positions and on-demand shifts; lack of funding + pay increases for many gov positions; and plain entitlement
There are also real limits to people trying to do their best for an extended period of time during multiple, ongoing, and overlapping crises. Also, after 600,000+ deaths in the US, it's not surprising people are mass-reassessing where they are working and who is their employer.
I have been self-conscious about my eyes for a long time. This video finally explains how they work differently, how a patch failed to work when I was very young, and why I could never see "3D" images.
When the word "strabismus" came onscreen I literally yelled because it was so overwhelming. I mostly use my right eye. I am really grateful this short film exists, so other people can understand what I live with all the time.
This is the difference between when I primarily use my right eye versus my left, when my strabismus ("whale eyes") are much more obvious and noticeable.
it's really odd to see the evolution of aircraft terminology being described as "woke" by a right-wing news outlet when things evolve and get updated all the time? is it "woke" to get a boarding pass sent to your phone instead of receiving carbon-paper tickets?
I still remember when restaurants were worried that banning smoking inside would lead to reduced sales. All it meant was non-smokers and little kids could breathe better and your clothes didn't smell as bad after you got home.
Language constantly changes. There are many terms that used to be acceptable that are no longer. (When was the last time you said "electronic mail"?) More inclusive terms are a *good* thing and make sense for many reasons.
logging onto Ticketmaster to get tickets for the Big MSG Concert and learning I have spent 15 years using that website and being mad about its various fees
Will a $50 ticket be closer to $90? With Ticketmaster, who knows. Budgeting is useless. Less than a minute left before sales under the monopoly start. (I will also buy merch, obvs)
I don't know how to talk about the situation in Canada but any white person who says the murders in London are not reflective of the country 1. isn't acknowledging its history 2. clearly hasn't talked to or listened to the people who experience racism on a regular basis
The experiences of Muslim folks, Indigenous folks, Black folks, anyone who had a relative who was in the internment camps, the hate crimes, plus the comments the literal leader of the NDP has received. Look at what gets tweeted and RTed by the Conservative Party. It's all there.
I don't know how to convince white people in power that non-white people aren't exaggerating their concerns and how much of a toll racism has on a daily basis, incl the energy spent worrying about safety, discrimination at work, hate crimes, pay gaps, various government policies.
