This has undoubtedly been one of the most painful periods of my life. My integrity has been questioned. I've been stripped of many of the tools I need to be an effective Leader.
This was not infighting, rather a one-sided campaign to end my leadership.
It has been hard to explain what has been said of me to my children, to my family. And most of all it has been hard to see compromised the extraordinary opportunity we have to elect more Greens.
I have considered packing it in many times.
It should not be this difficult to serve, and too many good people have found it impossible.
I haven't stopped because of the members who elected me, the candidates who sacrificed to run. I would be letting down people who had hoped, like me, that there was a place in politics for them.
So, when my kids ask me why I keep going, I tell them diversity in politics matter. I tell them in your family, we are both literally and figuratively survivors.
I tell them that while this is painful, it is not as painful as the families who lost loved ones in long-term care, the communities who identified unmarked graves over the past months, the victims of the heat dome that settled over parts of our country.
I will go on and continue to serve.
I am proud to lead the @CanadianGreens. I believe now, as I did when I joined, that we have the best ideas to tackle climate change, and the best social policies.
As we move forward in this period of renewal, I will continue to work to elect Greens across the country because I know the difference that it will make in people's lives.
Thank you to those who have expressed their support, it has mattered a great deal to me.
