They all have monetized their show in different ways

Let me explain the four most popular ways podcasters monetize their show

Option 1: Affiliate marketing

This is the easiest way for podcasters to make money
I'd say its the fastest as well

Its similar to YouTube

Produce an episode covering a specific product you like and find useful

Then sell it with an affiliate link in the show notes

Pro Tip: Be selective!

Don’t talk about everything because you think it’ll get you paid

Focus on the products you know your audience needs and would buy

If you don’t know the answer, you should ask your audience

Option 2: courses/coaching/consulting

This is the most popular strategy for monetizing podcasts

Courses, programs and memberships can be extremely profitable

These products require an area of expertise

Find the style that fits you the best

Everything isn't for everyone

Pro Tip: Build first

If your main strategy for monetizing will be your knowledge or skills,

Be patient

Focus on growing your brand

Its harder to sell when you’re talking to an empty room

Provide extreme solutions to your audience first

Option 3: advertising

Ads are the commercials you hear on podcasts

These aren’t terrible but you need A LOT of listens

Podcast advertising is still changing

So don’t expect to get a lot from placing ads on your podcasts

@DaveJackson has talked extensively about the CPM for these ads

You’d need about 10,000 downloads to make around $10 with the average CPM (or something crazy like that)

Some podcasters don’t think its worth it

It's up to you

Just curve your expectations

Option 4: sponsorship

You’ll make great money with sponsorships

Brand deals are easy to get once you have an audience

Most podcasters go after this option first but they don’t qualify

Sponsors require MAJOR patience

Sponsorships are sort of a paradox

You dont need a massive audience but it obviously helps

What you really need is assets for your show

Build the brand of your podcast so that its can’t be ignored

The companies will be knocking down your door to sponsor you!

Bonus: SaaS

This is one new untapped market of podcasting

Saas is simple:
1. Product
2. Traffic

The podcast is traffic!

Done correctly, this is a free way to build a seven figure business
