It's important to not take this at face value. Judicial Review is an incredibly vital tool for people to get justice when public authorities get it wrong. This tips the balance and makes that even harder.
This accountability grab isn't happening in a vacuum either...
We've got the above Bill alongside promises to 'update' the Human Rights Act attacking accountability in the courts
At the same time we have the Police, Crime, Sentencing & Courts Bill attempting to make it harder to protest in the streets....
An Elections Bill aimed to bring in Voter ID and make it harder for people to vote...
As well as secret units set up to filter freedom of information requests and proposed laws to recast journalism as spying....
All at the same time as elected MPs are sidelined in Parliament by growing use of statutory instruments and a Government not too fussed by allowing laws to be scrutinised....
Point is - it ain't tinkering.
It's the implementation of the same principle across multiple areas.
'Don't hold us to account, don't scrutinse us, we don't want to know' - and it is extremely dangerous.
