I'm not going to go into stats issues, like where they mismatch between two different screens for the same match. Or when they mismatch between leagues loaded in full detail and those view-only or not loaded at all.
Those have been covered to death since last year.
Instead 1) stats I'd like to see in FM22 and beyond; and 2) an easily fixable stats issue in FM21 that shouldn't reoccur in 22.
1) I agree with @mrichardshost on PPDA. With such a swing towards high press football, this is the perfect metric.
Progressive passing is another one, but "Packing" would be a lovely solution. Covers carries and passes, but also received as well as made.
continued 1) Key passes are any passes that result in a shot, but I'd like this split into 'from open-play' and 'from set pieces.' Fed up finding high key pass players that I think are great playmakers, but it turns out they just take their team's corners and indirect free kicks.
continued 1) Similarly this applies to npXG (non penalty xG). xG is ideal for quantifying how good a player is at getting into high opportunity goal-scoring positions, but not when muddied by +0.76 each time he takes a penalty.
continued 1) Last one is padj, or possession-adjusted defensive stats. This solves the problem of comparing the performance of defenders in teams who have lots of the ball and defend seldomly vs those in weaker teams who complete lots of defensive actions. statsbomb.com/2014/06/introd…
cont 1) A (sort of) way around this is to export your teams defensive numbers, then add a column for the % of the team's total tackles, interceptions etc. It doesn't matter if your team is big or small, if one player makes a high % of your interceptions, he's probably important.
2) My desire is just that the stats that ARE already in the game are ALL given a "per 90" variant. Some currently are, like shots on goal or tackles, but others (like xG) aren't. They all should be available "per 90," otherwise comparing them isn't useful.
cont 2) Metrics which are in the game under 'Player Stats - Overview' dropdowns should be available as insertable columns on the Squad and Player Search/Shortlist pages.
There are so many brilliant metrics already calculated by the game, but you can't see them where they matter.
cont 2) Look at these lovely and useful stats that are in the game but you can't use them on your own squad page or when scouting the market.
Conversation rate, Possession won per 90, blocks and clearances per 90, xG per shot (the only one that doesn't calculate properly).
cont 2) I'd love to use those metrics to compare my own players' performance to each other, and different targeted players on my shortlist too. The hard bit is already done, the calculations are all in the game, I'd just love to see them where they help me most.
'Selling sheet' shows me I've managed to cut $2.5m a year off the wage bill by ensuring that each first team player remains under a cost of $1k per minute played, regardless of salary. Or they are sold or negotiated with.
'Attributes sheet' shows we are stronger in attack than in defence.
Average combination of key attacking attributes across the squad - 11.9
Average combination of key defensive attributes across the squad - 10.6
