In 2011-12, the total allocation to National Security Council was 17.43 Crores which increased to 26.06 crore in 2013-14.
After NDA assumed office, it increased to ₹44.46 crore in 2014-15. In 2016-17 it was 33 crore.

1/n
It was In 2017-18 budget that it shot up to Rs.333 Crores. Modi visited Israel in July 2017. This was also the time when Pegasus was commissioned.

2/n
In 2018-2019, the Government drastically increased the National Security Council Secretariat’s budget again to Rs 841.73 crore, of which Rs 715.89 crore was under capital budget.

3/n
In 2019, this was drastically reduced to Rs 152 crore.

Seems like, National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS), led by Mr. Ajit Doval, did some large-scale "capital investment" into "something", during 2017 and 2018?

economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/politics-…
In 2020, this figure was Rs 170 Cr.

indiabudget.gov.in/budget2020-21/…

5/n
in 2021, this was Rs 228 Cr. The detailed demands for grants for it had 42 Cr for salaries (!), 14 Cr for office expenses, and 1 whopping Rs 150 cr for Cyber security.

(all figures in rupees Thousands), from page 33.

mha.gov.in/sites/default/…

6/n
It's clear that NSCS expenses have jumped massively from ~30 Cr levels to 330 cr in 2017-18, & remained high in 2018-19, before coming down a bit.

Also, the "Cyber Security Research and Development", component, that was missing before 2017 is the main contributor to this.

7/n
In "normal" levels, pre 2017,
Salaries ~17 cr
Office 7 cr
Secret Service 5cr were the main costs.

mha.gov.in/sites/default/…

8/n
In next year, 2017-18, which witnessed the 10 fold increase in the budget of NSCS from 33 cr to 330 cr, a new "Cyber Security Research and Development" expense suddenly appears, and becomes 90% of the budget of NSCS.

mha.gov.in/sites/default/…

9/n
Salary & office expenses jumped 20% &40% next year. Is this more people now sifting through the large amount of data being thrown out of #PegasusSpyware? We still had 260 cr, nearly 85% of budget spent on "Cyber Security Research and Development"
mha.gov.in/sites/default/…

10/n
Pegasus license costs $8 million (~Rs 60 cr) to spy on 50 phones. Allegedly, the Indian numbers were first added in 2017. The budget for National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS), led by Mr. Ajit Doval went up 10 fold in 2017-18.

2+2=4?

In light of @HindenburgRes report on #AdaniScam, worth revisiting the over-invoicing scam by Adani Group.

Adani group was investigated in 2013 and served with a notice by ED for massively over-invoicing his imports. 1/n

epw.in/journal/2016/2…
Adani power bought coal from its own Indonesia subsidiaries at an avg price of $82/ton when the landed price was $40-$50.

They had Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) with electricity distributors that were based on the cost of generation..

2/n economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/energ…
.. and therefore this higher cost was a scheme to charge more for electricity, & also siphon off these profits abroad.

Consumers pay higher tariffs. In case of any other power sales, the other shareholders see deflated profits for Adani power. 3/n

As with ANY step he takes, Modi's Kashmir Gambit is being hailed as a "masterstroke" by the Godi media & bhakts.

We have seen this before with demonetisation & GST.

Screaming Godi media anchors, Hashtags & memes on social media that are being enthusiastically shared. (1/n)
The constitutional impropriety in the way this has been done is an obvious issue for Indian Federal structure - can you decide the fate of a state without consulting its elected representatitves? (2/n)
Tomorrow, any state can be put under president's rule, & its boundaries changed. This precedence opens a can of worms, creates mistrust & undermines any peace negotiation with any separatists in any other part of the country. (3/n)

Really surprised that very few people in India, especially the media, are calling out the Modi Govt Bluffs on "Secrecy" in #RafaleDeal. This is getting desperate and bizarre by the day (1/n)
The whole world knows what variant of Rafale we are buying. Anyone can go to the Dassault aviation website, and see the compatible weapons of the F3R standard of Rafale. (2/n)

When the deal was announced all Media houses were blowing the trumpet about the weaponry included in it. The then Defence Minister Parrikar had himself given interviews describing features such as the Helment Mounted Display System (HMDS) etc (3/n)

You find claims of Taj Mahal being some ancient Hindu Shiva temple called Tejo Mahalya laughable, right? (Thread) 1/n
If there was indeed such a beautiful and grand temple at the site, wouldn't it be mentioned at least once in the many chronicles of greeks about India, of Chinese travelers such as Fa Hien and Huen Tsang?

2/n
You wonder how several major Rajput kings such as Jai Singh, Man Singh, Amar Singh will remain silent over such a supposedly major shrine being converted to a tomb.

Now Imagine this.

@arunjaitley 1/ Can Mr Jaitley, at least while he is still in government (Minister of Finance(?)) for next few months, bother to answer the questions, instead of raising 15 more to the Opposition?

We wish him plenty of time & success asking questions later.

@arunjaitley 2/ Mr Jaitley spends half of his blog talking of "Delay". Not that this justifies a hasty bad decision by the current government even if it was true, but Mr Jaitley is FACTUALLY incorrect in some places.
@arunjaitley 3/ Let us refresh the memory of Mr Jaitley with an easy to grasp timeline. The key point to see here is that in such a complex purchase, decisions/actions where pending with IAF itself & Vendors too at various times.

@Iyervval @RahulGandhi 1/ If you want to understand why & how @Iyervval has been spreading LIES about everything on Rafale, read our point by point rebuttal to his article. #ModiAmbaniRafaleScam
economictimes.indiatimes.com/opinion/et-com…
@Iyervval @RahulGandhi 2/ A.COST INFLATION He first uses his own old article, and several in the media to "claim" the price had "Bloated 300%" to $30 Bn
"By April 2013, the same media reported a 50% increase to $15 Bn ($119 M ppu). By January 2014, this price had bloated 300% to $30 Bn ($238 M ppu)"
@Iyervval @RahulGandhi 3/ A.1 This is of course more than double of what even the Defence Minister himself claimed after the renegotiated deal (₹ 90,000 Cr ~$14Bn on Apr 13, 2015)
