Please bear with me and read the full thread. As I expected the 1/6 Select Committee is devolving into the same partisan bickering too often seen in DC these days. I was all in for an independent commission, but frankly somewhat opposed to a Select Committee for fear that it …
… would devolve into a partisan circus & the findings would be lost or ignored. I hate to be proven right but these folks are so predictable. That said, with McCarthy pulling out, the remaining committee members have a real opportunity to do something meaningful. Here’s how: …
First, ignore the fact the Republicans are boycotting. Let Chairman Thompson briefly mention his regret, but from that point on never bring it up again - not in the hearings, not in the media, not on social media. Doing so makes this a non-partisan exercise. Second, ….
Don’t focus on Trump. Sure, he is a huge part of this and that cannot be avoided. Neither can the other GOP speakers at the 1/6 rally, but focus on the facts without railing against individuals.
Third, go where the evidence leads no matter where it takes you.
Fourth,…
…speak with one voice beginning with the hearings. Ignore the shenanigans of the GOP and their media enablers and stay focused. Dems do a lousy job of staying on message, more often than not letting others control the narrative. Don’t fall into that trap….
When I tried the church bombing cases I refused to listen to or read any media accounts of the trial for fear that I would start trying the case to the media rather than the jury. It was the best discipline I could have. Ignore the naysayers….
…and anyone, Republican or Democrat, who seeks political gain.
Fifth, stick to your mission. Stick to your process. You know the significance here and it is not to gain political advantage or inflict political damage. This is just too damn important for our country and…..
…our future. This could happen again and what you do will go along way toward preventing any similar event. Make sure the American people have the unvarnished, but totally accurate, account of the facts without political spin. Finally….
.
Remember, the eyes of the nation and the world will be on you, not as Democrats or Republicans, but as public servants who are there to get the facts, support the Constitution and defend democracy. Rise to the occasion…Don’t just take the bait
Thanks for bearing with me folks.

THREAD: Hi folks, @realdonaldtrump’s tweet about soybeans today got me thinking about how much misinformation is out there about many of his recent tariffs.
Let’s take a look at the facts, shall we? Join me for #Trade101.
Tariffs = a tax on a particular class of imports or exports. Commodity = a mass-produced unspecialized product — this is important because it means it can be produced ANYWHERE.
The President imposed a 25% tariff (remember - a tax) on a laundry list of Chinese products bought by Americans. China responded by doing the same to many US goods bought in China, including—you guessed it—soybeans.
