Our current tax rate is the lowest it’s been in 30 years. Under Haslam, the rate was raised 3.05 (per $100 of assessed value) Rogero dropped it down to 2.73 and the current rate is 2.46. Next year the county will appraise houses and an estimated 30% increase (Compass Knox).
If homes are appraised at an increase, due to state equalization law, the tax rate is required to adjust downward. It is estimated to go down to roughly 2.22. (Remember it was 3.05 under Haslam and is currently at 30 year low.)
There is no tax increase planned at this time. Even IF, and I say IF, there was to be an increase in taxes, it would not be anywhere near the Haslam rate-likely, it would still be lower than our current rate.
Understand, our city budget is 75% salaries and pensions, we have to pay what we owe and fund our city employees!
